hi everyone, I just got myself a NR70V and am very impressed with it - so are my friends :P
This is my first PDA, so i am very new to this world - I hope my questions and/or discussions dont come across as 2 childish or stupid!
Anyway, im having problems getting MP3's onto the NR70V using 'SonicStage' - I have now found out that i need a WHITE MS to transfer ATRAC3 files (bummer) - but i do have the BLUE MS which as far as i can tell is fine for MP3's..
Can someone please advise me weather i can do this via 'SonicGate' which came with the Clie - or do i need some other software?
Thanks for your help..

I found Sonic Stage to be a lousy application. I believe it only works with the more expensive and restrictive white sticks.
Do this: Connect the NR70 to your computer with the USB. Start MS Import on your Clie. It should become a mounted drive on your PC if you have MS Export installed on your PC (if you don't you can load MS Export from the Clie CD that came with your Clie).
Then you can use Windows Explore to move your MP3 files to the MS.
MP3 files go into the /palm/programs/msaudio folder on the MS. The Clie book will tell you the exact format required for the MS3.
It took me a while to figure all this out when I got my Clie too and I've been a computer programmer for 15 years. Don't feel bad if this doesn't come naturally.

I put my trailers in the /palm/launcher directory and run them with the Kinoma application that finds the videos in that directory. If you don't have Kinoma it is highly recommended to run videos.

I have also move the MP3 to the directory and the Audio player knows they are there, but still will not play it.
What am I doing wrong?

My Audio Player doesn't play them either. When I click on "play," nothing happens.
I've tried mp3's encoded in 128K, 112K, & 96K (all 44.1KHz), but still have the same result.
SonicStage won't transfer ANYTHING to my PDA. I get the error "The media is not available becasue it lacks copyright protection or is invalid." So, I've been simply transferring them over manually in "transfer mode," but still can't get anything to play.
I assume this is because it isn't a Magic Gate card, yet the manual says I should be able to transfer MP3's to a regular Memory Stick. I'd really hate to buy a Magic Gate card and still end up with the same problem. :(
Anyway, if anyone else has had this problem, and managed to find a work-around, please let me know! Perhaps if you have an MP3 that plays fine, give me a link so I can give it a try. Perhaps it is simply an encoding problem.

I have attempted everything you stated and have the exact same results. Whats funny is that if I use MSimport and mount my MSstick as an external harddrive. I can play the MP3 off of my memory stick on my PC. So I know that the MP3 file is fine!!!
Hey Sony, What's UP with that!!!!!
Again, if anyone can help. I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

bah i was listening to all these ppl about encoding and crap so i gave up...until.. i took my memory stick, and found the red label, locked it, then unlocked. I put it back into my clie. Now i used MS Import and Export. I clicked add, and selected a mp3...then i put it in the Palm/Programs/MSAudio/ folder...and me knowing my own luck, i figured it wasnt gonna work. Oddly enough it played my songs back...hope this helps. And i thank CaveMan for helping me through this

jaimejr66, you're right, it isn't any sort of corruption issue. I have tried o0hac0o's suggestion (a couple times), and I still can't get MP3's to play on my NR70V at all.
Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
Joshua

I apologize for replying to my own post, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.
I performed a hard-reset on my NR70V, and it works fine now -- right out of the gate. I am successfully playing MP3's from a regular memory stick.
Why did I have a problem in the first place? I can't say for sure, but if I had to guess, it probably had to do with some application that was uploaded during my first hotsync. I used to have an M505, and I'm guessing there was something in there that caused an issue.
Needless to say, I removed ALL of my apps and hot-sync stuff, and will now begin reloading. (of course, I backed up to a memory stick first, just in case)
Anyway, the MP3 I played was encoded at 160K, and it sounded great.
Thanks to all for their help. Good luck to all as well.
Oh, I almost forgot. One thing I had noticed on my Clie-- Anytime I would do a reset, it never played a noise when the SONY logo displays. After the hard reset, it now plays the little tune upon a reset. Hopefully anyone else with this symptom will know that a hard reset might be a possible solution.

What software are you using to record MP3 files?

This is a good encoder.
Pretty fast.
Or try using Razor Lame, change the bitrate settings and everything and then encode the mp3 files again.
I had problems playing back some of my mp3 files, but when I encoded those files with Razor Lame again, it worked perfectly.
Good luck.

Also, remember that any third-party Memory Stick readers/writers can also have an effect on MP3 playing. If you want to start clean, back up everything on the stick to your hard drive, then have the Clie format the stick and then trying transferring MP3's.
