I thought that some may be interested about my experiences of the notorious screen cable fix on my 7Book.

Following the instructions and guidance mostly on this thread:

I first manufactured a piece of plastic following Fritz's instructions by cutting up the casing from an old cheap (freebie) calculator. The holes were made using a soldering iron and were 3mm, not the 2.5 as indicated on the diagram (although this didn't seem to be too big a problem).

Following this I stripped the machine down to get access to the screen ribbon cable and replaced the existing piece of black plastic with my manufactured piece. I have heard much talk that newer boards had some for of cable fix implemented, but as far as I could see, this does not actually 'hold' the cable but just guides it. It was the larger piece of black plastic.

Reassembled the machine which then didn't work. Took out the 32MB memory and it started up fine - replaced the memory and hey presto - everything OK. Might be something to watch out for - insert personality module and then memory.

Fairly straight forward although quite delicate and easy to slip and score the motherboard - especially when removing the screen holding pins.
