Does the dialog box on the PC show (in the graphic at the top right) a yellow ? between the PC and palmtop with the message "PPP Link is active"? If so, the PC side is working properly - just make sure you are using the correct COM port and that the speed is the same as you will be using on the Psion.

My Psion settings are:

Control Panel / Modems
------------------------------
Name: MochaPPP
Speed: 57600 (but use 115200 on both if you want)
Connect: Serial
Fax: Auto
------------------------------
Init (reset) string: (Blank)
Data: (blank)
Fax: (blank)
------------------------------
Flow: Hardware (RTS/CTS)
Terminal (DSR/DTR) [X] checked
Carrier (DCD) [ ] not checked
Type: Fixed line
------------------------------

Control Panel / Internet
------------------------------
Name: MochaPPP
Connection: Direct
------------------------------
Manual login [X] checked
------------------------------
Get IP from server [X] cheked
Get DNS from server [X] checked
------------------------------
Use login script [ ] not checked
------------------------------
Allow plain text auth. [X] checked
------------------------------

....and that should let you connect. You might find it helps to use "The Dialer" to establish the PPP connection - this is my standard "quote" about the program:

You might find it useful to install John McAleely's
little program "The Dialer". This lets you connect
to the internet independently from any particular
application, a bit like Dial Up Networking on a PC.
It will also confirm that a connection has been
established before trying to use an internet
application such as Web, Email, Opera, RMRNews etc.
One thing though if you do decide to use it, make
sure that in "Control Panel / Internet" you have a
time entered in the box "On exit, stay online for..."
which is sufficient to allow you to open an internet
application (or in the case of Email, open a mailbox),
otherwise the connection will drop immediately.
The Dialer can be downloaded from the "Series 5(mx)"
page of my website or there is a link to John's site
for more information.

Thankx for your answer but my fu#¤%¤ing 5mx still not working.
It is not possible to make a connection.....
The Pc and mocha ppp shows that there is a connection but when using Opera or e-mail its still the same "network problem".
Have tried to reinstall everything, changed ports, tried "dialer" but nothing seems to help.
Is there a bug in epoc Os? Software upgrade to download or what....? plzzzzz help

I have just installed Mocha PPP in my Windows XP machine and I did manage to run Email through the PC's connection, but I had to disable my Firewall first.

With the firewall running, I was asked if I wanted to allow internet access but after replying 'yes', Mocha PPP had hung and wouldn't even close down with Ctrl-Alt-Del. I had to reboot the PC. I repeated this process three times.

After closing the firewall program first, I got a connection immediately. Do you have a firewall running?

Are you absolutely sure that PsiWin is completely shut down - i.e no horizontal line showing in the system tray? Just a thought.

For what it's worth, Mocha runs fine for me alongside ZoneAlarm, both in Win98SE and Win2000, but I have no experience with WinXP.

Julie,For what it's worth, Mocha runs fine for me alongside ZoneAlarm, both in Win98SE and Win2000, but I have no experience with WinXP.It is ZoneAlarm that I have in the Win XP PC and it is the process of granting permission for the Psion to access the internet that seems to cause Mocha to hang - possibly the interruption to the data flow while the connection is running. As I have no need to use Mocha, other than for testing purposes and passing on settings, it isn't really a problem.

Mike

I guess it's an academic point for you, if you don't really need Mocha, but would it not work if the permissions were set up manually within ZoneAlarm, before attempting to connect the Psion? That's how mine is, so I don't get the request for permission interrupting the connection process.

:) :) If you'd waited another five minutes, I was about to tell you that I've configured ZoneAlarm manually to do just that!! :) :)
