My Ipaq HX4700 turns on itself sometimes and gets locked. Even the backlight stays on, but it impossible to turn it of without resetting it.
If I don't reset it, it stays on untill the battery runs out. Anybody know what could be wrong???

Very good point! I had that same problem this morning when it was switched on for no reason and my main battery had flattened to 2% and there was a warning on the screen telling me so. Why it did that I don't know. I'd like to know if there is an answer.

Two main things to check when your iPAQ is turning itself on "for no apparent reason" are the Activesync settings on the iPAQ itself and the Inbox settings on you email accounts (again on the iPAQ).
For Activesync: Be sure that your iPAQ is not trying to connect using a "Mobile Schedule" -- uncheck the box on the iPAQ.
For Inbox: Under Inbox on your iPAQ, Tools -- Options -- Accounts... Tap on the account and on Email Setup page 4/4 tap Options. On Options page 1/3, uncheck the "Connect and check for messages every:" box...

Thanks AD. My schedule sync was checked. I've disabled it, so we'll see what happens from here.

Well, it happened again today. When I woke up, it wouldn't turn on. I connected it to the charger and the battery was at 0%.
Did I mention that when it is turned this way, everything is completely locked, and the only way to turn it off is to soft reset it?

Do you have any Today Screen plugin that automatically connect to internet at certain interval to update information such as weather or news? And when you turn off the ipaq, do you have any programs left running in the background? These programs may not go to sleep properly and contiue to run. 2 things you can try is to soft reset the ipaq (which will ensure that all the programs are completely closed) and turn off bluetooth and wifi before you turn the unit off for the night.

GPSfan,
I found something that might be relevant as it seems to explain the problem I had but not why your hx4700 locked up. I got home this evening, and it was switched on again. Trying AD's suggestion, I first looked at the running programs, and the one for Garmin was active, even though it was not running when I switched off.
I went to the gps info screen and it was trying to acquire satellites. Who started the application and enabled the gps I have no idea but it was all by itself. I wonder if the code that senses the presence of the cfque might not be tricking itself into thinking it has been removed and reinserted? It's just a long shot perhaps.
Maybe tonight, remove the cfque from your hx4700 and see if anything happens.

Well, I don't have CF Que, but I have done a complete reset and I am now installing all my applications one by one and see where it crashes.
