How to get phone # from Contacts in Appointments

When making an appointment in calendar, can the person's phone number be looked up in contacts and included with the appointment?

In the default Calendar program, when entering an event in the main day view, perform a menu Option, Phone Lookup... You will be taken to a Lookup screen; there find the entry you want, select it, and press the Add button. You will be taken back to the Day View, with the event still selected, but it will have added the name and the default number of the entry you selected.
