Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Audio Books now available on TT!!! Larken 11-18-2002, 12:03 PM Audible is supported on the Tungsten T! Check out www.audible.com to download the player and the books. MBGrayson 11-19-2002, 12:31 AM I don't see it yet. Supposed to be out soon. If you have a more detailed link, I'd like to see it. Tungsten and Palm OS are not yet listed on the Audible site. Mike Monon333 11-19-2002, 06:52 AM Just load or reload the Audible desktop then when you pick your device it will list the Tungsten, it is available now.... I loaded it yesterday and it works. Norm 11-19-2002, 01:02 PM I still can't see it. AudibleManager looks for new devices but doesn't show the TT. Anyone else find it? Larken 11-19-2002, 01:12 PM Okay... let's go step-by-step... 1. On the main page, choose "Download software to Listen" 2. Choose Download AudibleManager 3.6 3. Run the downloaded file, namely ActiveSetup.exe. 4. Choose Palm Tungsten as your device, and click Install. I think it's pretty logical at this point. The part that I had a problem with was the sample audio file that it provides. It doesn't work, or at least it didn't on mine. Audible files come in four different qualities, labelled 1, 2, 3, and 4. Audible claims that Tungstens will work with either format 2 or 3, but in my experience, only 3 will work. I tried a format 2 book, and it was just garbled junk. Anyway, this is the process. If I can help any further, let me know... Norm 11-19-2002, 01:34 PM Absolutely right! I already had AudibleManager 3.6 but clicking on Upgrade didn't show up the TT. You have to redownload AudibleManager and then it gives the TT as an option. At the moment I only have type 4 audio so I am now downloading a type 3 and hopefully that will work. Thanks. MBGrayson 11-20-2002, 12:23 AM I got it to work also. Audio needs to be in '3' qaulity to work well. I tried '2' and it was garbled. I also suggest backing up your T/T after you install Audible Player. I trashed Audible player once, and deleted it from the Palm. Then I couldn't re-install it until I re-downloaded the Audible Manager and started over. Now it is working well, and sounds good. It is slow to hotsync to a SD card, and you cannot do a direct transfer thru a card reader, due to the way Audible software works. Mike amell 02-17-2003, 03:20 PM "Slow to Hotsync to the card" is an understatement! - I clocked mine at about 2K/sec, which makes this unusable. Audible is aware of the problem and saythey are in touch with Palm to fix the conduit - we'll see... pdcparamedic 02-17-2003, 05:29 PM Ok, let me get this right.....I purchase the basic plan and am obligated to 11 months of membership? That gives me one audio book a month and one subscription at no charge? It looks like it could be cancelled if you ordered a player and then returned it within 30 days? Does anyone have a history with this company? If so, when it says one audio book a month, it means no matter the price, you get one a month free; ie, the bible is over $100....so it would be free and the next month, I would get another free audio book? thanks for any help pdc Kasia 02-17-2003, 06:11 PM I'm not sure how their membership plan works, but if I were you, I would be very sure that the software works correctly before you sign up for anything. My experience has been that the software is very temperamental - I have been told that they have a new version now, but it still has the same version number for some reason. The new version is supposed to be easier to sync (although not necessarily faster). When it works it's great, but I believe one of the problems is that they are so concerned with unauthorized copying of their content that it interferes with ease of use. I can understand their concern, but it makes it difficult for legitimate users. Frank Lentz 02-17-2003, 08:49 PM I've been an Audible member for over 3 years, I have the "Light Listener " account. The selection you choose is indeed included in your account so it's listed price won't be charged, anything over the volume included in the account will. One thing to watch out for is regestering your players. Here's the problem, each device that you use for play back needs to be registered with them, if you have a system crash that requires a os re-installation you will need to call audible to reset your account, this it due to you're only allowed one desktop and one device for playback and when the audible program connects to the server the codes won't match. If you know that you're going to do a re-install, start audible manager and de-activate your players first, after the re-install re activate them again. I hope thats not too confusing. Rand 02-18-2003, 04:07 AM Audible works great on a Mac platform... as long as you have an iPod. I e-mailed them to see if there will be any plans to allow Mac users to download for a T/T as well as an iPod and was told, that sadly no, no plans for anything such as that are in order. I messed around a little trying to convert the files to mp3 or some other format so I can run on my Pod as well as pda but haven't had much luck yet. Still, that little quibble aside, it's a great site. My biggest problem so far has been finding better books right after I decide on my monthly picks. PDA Street
