I just bought an IBM Workpad z50 off of ebay from the original owner who said it was in excellent condition and it was when I received it. I took it out of the box and installed the Windows CE Services V2.2 on my desktop computer running Windows XP which included ActiveSync, but when I hooked up my Workpad z50 to my desktop using the serial cable I received the following error message:

Cannot start communications with the desktop PC. Remote Networking could not start due to a critical error (647)

Does anybody know what this means and have a solution to fix this problem so I can not sync Outlook information, but also transfer programs to my Workpad z50.

Another odd thig after installing the Windows CE Services on my desktop PC a "Mobile Devices" folder was created on the "My Computer" but there isn't any devices listed there. Shouldn't my z50 be listed in there?

Last problem I'm having:
To get some programs onto my Workpad I put them on CF card and then went to install them from the card. When I clicked on the setup file for the program I receive the error message "setup" is not a valid Windows CE application." I don't know much about Windows CE, but I do know that the Workpad z50 is running Windows CE V3.0

Still a great little notebook...or is it a PDA...or both? hmmm

Windows CE Services is a predecessor of activesync. I don' think you should run both program in the same computer. Try uninstalling Windows CE Services and install latest version of avtivesync (3.8), you can download from MSFT:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync38.mspx

Relating to the program install problem, you have to run the setup.exe on you pc then when you get synced with active sync there is a tab to insall programs, or some open a window on their own and allow you to install.

Most ask where you want to install them, so choose the cf card. Most will run from there, though now and then you will run into one that won't.
