Dear All

I'm waiting for my upgrade licence for Microsoft Mobile 2003 to drop through the post any day now. I have read that many people have experienced problems changing from 2002 to 2003 and want to make sure I protect all my data and downloaded programs during the installation. Is there any advice you can give me so I don't lose anything?

Regards, Amanda ;)

Because you cannot restore a backup from different OS version, you should sync all your PIM data such as contacts, calendar to desktop's Outlook and copy or sync other files to desktop's folder. Make sure you have all the registration code or serial number for all your 3rd commercial softwares available. Once you are ready to upgrade, read and follow instructions very carefully especially the part about pluging in AC power adapter to the ipaq during upgrade. There will be an option to backup old ROM, you may want to do it so you can restore the older version in case there are something in new OSyou do not like. After the upgrade, sync the ipaq to the desktop, create new partnership and all your PIM data will be sync over and use desktop's Activesync Add/Remove programs to re-install your 3rd party softwares.

AD, explain something to me. I was of the impression that the version of the OS shipped with the device is the only once you can use and, the pda makers (hp?) don't provide flash upgrades as they want you to buy a new device instead?

HP provides (sells) WM2003 upgrade for H5400, H3900 and the H3800 iPAQ Series.
http://www.hp.com/sbso/special/ppc_upgrade.html

They do not provide WM2003SE upgrade for any models (perhaps this is a new policy) and we do not know if they will provide WM2005 upgrade (we'll see if they'll change thier mind again).

When will WM 2005 be due to be launched ?

Most of the new models have already been launched to the market recently such as o2 mini, hp 2400 and 2700.

Nobody knows for certain. My guess is later part of this year, perhaps a little after summer ends.

i guess a few new models would be then launched for the summer time and the rest for the holiday seasons at the year end !

Next integration to WM2005 should be to match the 3G system.
