We need a little more information about this, what program in particular did you download? and when you say that they did not work, can you describe exactly what happen?

before dowloading one app, I was able to select "open app after dowload", after downloading the app, a message came up saying that is the app was not a valid ppc format. Perhaps I need to be able to select another format? The site I visited allowed me to select a section identified as PPC so I must assume that it was the correct format. Perhaps I am not advaced enough to perorm such an operation? Maybe I need to find the "PPC for dummies" site ; ) and start there........

If you are asked to choose, pick ARM or XScale as cpu choice. From what you described, this may be a desktop installer, you will need to run it on the desktop while you activesync the ipaq, and it will install the application for you. Here's more details information on Pocketpc programs installation:

If it's still not working, you can post the exact link to the program and we'll see what the problem is.

I will try this from my desktop later today and see if I get a different result. all the while, I thought I could download directly to my PPC. I WILL learn this device. Thanks AD. I will post with results later.

You can download and install directly on the ipaq, you just need to choose .CAB file instead of .EXE file. Many developers provide both formats. There are also instruction about CAB file in the link provided above.

AD, as has been my lesson for each time you respond to my question, you have the answer. You were right on the money with the games being loaded by the PC. Everything worked just as you said. thanks, AD....until the next dilema.......

Following up to the game question, Although it loaded the games and they work, they loaded to a SECOND games folder under programs. How can I get them to link to the Games selector in my today menu? when I choose games from the today, start, games, it only shows the default solitaire and jawbreaker..................

Open file explorer on the ipaq. browse to My Device -- Windows - Start Menu -- Programs -- (2nd) Games folder, tap and hold on the link you want to move, a popup with option to cut will appear then browse to the original Games folder (under the same Programs folder) then click Edit on the tool bar and you can paste the shortcut there.

Thanks again AD. It worked for two games, the third game did not. I had to move the whole folder for the ONE game. It would not work with just the .exe. But that's good. at least I can access them from one location.
