Hi, hope someone can help me!
I have just bought a Revo and have been trying for days to get it to connect to my Laptop but it just will not connect at all!!
I am running Windows 98 on it, and Office 2K, I suspected that I needed an update for Office 2K so I downloaded PsiWin 2.3.3 but still no joy - it tries very hard to connect but won't at all!
I have tried everything in the manual (changing connection speed etc) but nothing - could it be something to do with my internal modem, and if so what can I do about it? It seems that the COM1 port is generally disabled on my laptop, presumably something to do with the modem, but even if I manually enable it nothing is happening!!
Any help would be much appreciated - have I just bought a dodgy Revo from a dodgy guy?!!!
Thanks in advance
James

The original version of PsiWin should have been OK with Windows 98 but if you have uninstalled one version and installed another, it is essential that you run the PsiWin Registry Cleaner after the uninstall.
Uninstall whichever version you now have and run the reg cleaner then reinstall.

Thanks for the advice Mike,
Do you think this will make any difference or do you think there is a more serious issue as to why it won't connect?
Can people generally connect Revos to laptops?
And is there really a Win98 problem where some machines jst won't connect with the Revo?
Cheers

It is very important to have a 'clean' install of Psiwin so as to be able to rule it out of being the problem.
There is a generalised procedure in my FAQ (URL in my sig) under 'Connecting to a desktop/laptop computer' for testing the serial connection. In order to user this procedure, you will have to close down all TSRs that 'grab hold' of the serial port, including Psconsv.exe, the TSR that senses whether a Psion PDA is plugged in.

Laptops are generally more problematic than desktops (note that the Revo is not a special case - all Psion PDAs are affected by connection problems). What make/model do you have? Dell are known to be especially difficult. If you have only one external connector, then the key issue is discovering which COM port this is assigned to. Once again, you can use my procedure to help you ascertain this.

Apparently there is some known problem with 98. Again itsnot Revo-specific, but affects all Psion PDAs.
Overall, I'd suggest your problems are around the issue of identifying which COM port the external plug actually is, and then ensuring that this port is not being grabbed by any other piece of software.
