I am working on a university research project for which i'm using a Psion 5 running linux to interface with a microcontroller via an rs232 cable. Unfortunately i'm coming across some compatibility problems using the series 5, which do not exist on the 5mx (I have a 5mx for personal use, but don't want it getting damaged in use for this project).

I am therefore looking to obtain a cheap 5mx. I need something which will boot up and that has working serial ports, IR and compact flash. As linux can boot from a compact flash card automatically and without any user intervention the screen doesn't need to work, nor does the keyboard or sound. No stylus, manuals, cables, cf cards etc are required either as I already have them.

Does anyone in the UK (or nearby countries) have such a device going spare which they could sell me for a low price? I'm happy to buy via ebay if you want.

Did you manage to get this sorted? If not, I might just have a possibility.

While we're on the subject of broken/cheap 5MXs ...

I am also on the look-out for a broken/damaged/faulty Psion 5MX, as I need a 5MX keyboard. The condition of the screen or casing is not important, I am interested in the state of the keyboard.

I have a 5MX which had the screen cable replaced last year (thanks to PsionFlexi), but various keys on the keyboard don't work. The 'menu' key doesn't make the menu-bar appear, and the Func+Spacebar doesn't bring-on the backlight.

This is a 'spare' 5MX so I'm in no hurry.
