Hello!

I have had an on going battery drain problem just about ever since I purchased my M-130 new. I installed a new battery and that made no difference at all.

If anyone has any suggestions regarding this I sure would appreciate hearing what they may be. TIA

Due to this problem I am seriously thinking of up grading to a new PDA. I would like to stick with Palm if for no other reason to be able to transfer all my programs and data to the new unit.

I guess my other question is two fold. First, can you transfer all files and programs from a M-130 to the newer Palm's. And the second part of the question is can this just be done by sync'ing?

Additionally, would I just enter my current Palm user name into the new Palm and would it then sync with the data in the computer (An iMac G5). Or, can you transfer all data and files from the one Palm to the other by infrared. Not sure if the new Plams have that feature or not as I have not checked their spec's.

Many thanks!

First, you can and should keep your same username since that will assure you that all your data gets transferred to your new Palm.

It used to be a fairly easy proposition to upgrade to a new Palm before OS 5 since almost everything worked with any Palm OS up to 4.1. There are many programs that either don't work with OS 5.x or need to be upgraded. A lot depends on how many third party programs you use on your M130. If you use only a few, you can just go ahead and sync with your new Palm and you probably will have few problems. If you use a lot of third party programs, especially hacks, you need to rename your Username/Backup folder to Backup_old before doing your first sync. This will restore all your PIM data but not your third party programs. You can then check your third party programs to see if they are compatible with OS 5.x or need to be upgraded. Hacks in general don't work with OS 5.x. Those that are compatible can be installed from your Backup_old folder. You can restored updated programs in the normal way after downloading the upgrade. The only thing you'd then have to do would be to restore any data files from these programs that are still in your Backup_old folder.

This sounds more complicated than it really is. Upgrading is more tedious than difficult if you use a lot of third party programs.

Hi Jim,

First, thanks for taking the time to reply to my questions. Really appreciate your doing so. I do have quite a few programs but only a very few that are super important. The others I can live without...or search for updated versions.

Again, thanks for your help.
