I am looking for an application to add birtdays and anniversaries which will allow setting an alarm. Any recommendations that will work on the Ique and where to find the program?

What's wrong with the Datebook application on the iQue?

On the iQue, select the Date. Tap any time. In the next dialog tap "No Time".

Enter the text. Tap "Details". Tap in the box next to "Repeat".

In the "Repeats" dialog tap "Year". The default of "Every 1 year", "End on: No End Date" should be fine.

The process is similar if you would rather do it in the Palm Desktop. Do it in either one and it will sync to the other. That's the way the Holidays are set up in the Datebook.

That's what I do. Am I missing something?

And you can also set the alarm so that it goes off a day in advance, so you have time to buy a present!

Just out of curiosity; what time of the day would you want the alarm to go off for someone's birthday? Do you go for midnight when the day starts and the person is officially 1 year older or do you try to get the actual time of day they were born? On the anniversary thing; I was married in Hawaii. Do I have it alarm taking into account that Hawaii is in a different time zone? Will my wife be mad if I hit "snooze" and go back to bed? What about my dog's birthday? He ages 7 years for every one year I do. Do I have it go off 7 times a year? How do I divide 12 months by 7, this is not going to work....

I always set it to a week in advance so I have plenty of time to procrastinate :o

DateBK5 includes the ability to handle timezones, but I haven't tried it in an application like this one. I do use it for appointments and such, when going to England, for example.
I think you wife will be a lot more angry if you hit her, then snooze...
You can set seven different alarms for your dog, each to repeat annually. 365/7 is about 52 days. I think you'll manage the rounding yourself.

See, serious answers to ... questions!

You guys .....
Ken suggests:
"What's wrong with the Datebook application on the iQue?

I agree but the "No time" AND Alarm brings up another issue.
CC points out:
"Just out of curiosity; what time of the day would you want the alarm to go off for someone's birthday? Do you go for midnight when the day starts and the person is officially 1 year older or do you try to get the actual time of day they were born? "

If you DO set the alarm, which you can as pointed out
by Coop:
"And you can also set the alarm so that it goes off a day in advance, so you have time to buy a present!"
and by orangerider:
"I always set it to a week in advance so I have plenty of time to procrastinate :o "

...And have "No Time" selected we get back to CC's response again. (circles again- :( ) How does the alarm alert you if there is "No Time". Does it alert you at Midnite and wake you up?

Now Anders points out:
"What's wrong with setting the alarm at some time, when it's likely that you are awake anyway?"
I think he's on to this "No Time" thing too.

And to top it off, the manual doesn't explain what the "Alarm" will do on an "Untimed" repeating event. Just says "Untimed events appear at the top of the list of times and is marked with a diamond" telling me you have to open the datebook to see it?

Ya'll answered jcgc50's question and opened a can of worms at the same time. Pretty good.
Since I haven't tried this "feature", I think I'll just hit snooze and nap a bit while ya'll figure this one out. ;)

Figuring it out is pretty easy.

At least with DateBK5, you can set a default time, when alarms are issued for untimed events. I have it set to 11:00, so unless I specify any other time, this is when it will beep.

I'm not sure this can be done with the built-in Datebook application. I still consider the added value of DateBK5 exceeding the cost of that program, so using Datebook is not for me.

Can of worms closed.

I came up with the solution: I set the alarm to go off every hour, no matter what, then I think if there's something I'm suppossed to be doing or some party I need to to go to. My problem is now I'm not getting any sleep and my battery has died. Hmm, I think I'm sufering from sleep deprivation- my dog just hit the snooze button and my wife is barking at me.....

We have a cat at home. She's very curious, so that part of the description seems to fit. She's also tired most of the day, so I'm beginning to wonder if she's more or less on the same schedule. Maybe she wakes up every hour too?

Actually I wasn't kidding about setting it a week in advance. The timer when not set for a specific time has a star burst at the top where the date is that continues to go off until the date you have it set for. Bring up the calander, tap the day, select new, select no time, enter name, select details, check alarm hit down arrow and select days finally enter the number of days you want to be notified in advance . Thats it. :o

"The timer when not set for a specific time has a star burst at the top where the date is that continues to go off until the date you have it set for."
Are you talking about the starburst being at the top on the datebook (meaning you have to open the datebook) or on your launcher. Do you get an audible alert too - when?

The starburst is upin the left hand corner by the time in the launcher mode. It may show up on other aplications also I haven't noticed it though. It is very noticable when it is working. Very hard to ignore. I have not set the audible alert so don't know about that part. I don't think it is necesary to alert you.

This is one of the things that is described in the manual. I know, because I have seen it, albeit not used it, so it must be in the manual...

Although I searched through the new manual (as I stated earlier) and only found how to set it, not how to see it, I guess I'll have to try a daily alarm, with no time, to see the starburst. I use LauncherX, so I should see it on the top row as orangerider says.

Well, it's just as orangerider says (not that I doubted it, just had to see for myself how LauncherX deals with it). I set a daily event with no time and I did check the alarm box. I looked this morning and the Q was on and in the top left corner on LauncherX was a flashing starburst. I don't remember hearing any alarm as the time crossed midnight though, so maybe that function doesn't work on a "No Time" event, as I guess it would be sounding all day. There is no way to "acknowledge" the event, that I could find - you have to delete it.

I use HappyDays, a freeware that scans the addressbook for birthdays and anniversaries and sets up either a ToDo or a Meeting, both with or without alarm to go off at a user-set time before the event. It could also clean up the ToDOs or meetings that it set as an option. You could see in advance the upcoming events.
