Hi all, I ran into a strange problem and not sure how to resolve it.
I have been using my iQue without problem, with my base map and detail map installed through the first time.
Today, I added more details map through Map Install in the Palm desktop as I need to travel outside what I got on my iQue. So I added the map through the Map Install Wizard, no problem. Then I did a sync with iQue, no problem.
Then I went into QueFind via Lodging, try to locate the hotel that I am going to, then problem. I got the message said:
"Detailed maps are required to use this feature. Visit www.garmin.com for more information."
In fact, most other QueFind icons have the same msg, like Address ... etc. Cities was fine.
I am puzzled, as I should have the detailed maps in there like before, just with the addition pieces I added.
I know I could do that search before even when GPS not on.
Any idea? I am traveling in the next 16 hours or so, really like to get this sorted out if possible.
Thanks!!

If you want to add areas to your map set you have to build an entire new map set on your computer and then hot sync it to the iQue. You can't just add a new section.
Is this what you tried to do?

I guess I did. I went to Map Install on the palm desktop, when it brought up the map, I could see all the sections I had selected before, like MN, IL, ... etc. I added Iowa this time, and I could see it took a long time to save or something. And when I sync, it took a long time too, so I figured it must have re-do the whole thing.
So I wonder, maybe I should try to delete all the maps on my SD card, and just try to install again?
I went outside just now just to try, see to be able to use the general direction function ... just that I can't do the QueFind stuff like looking for hotel or something.

You can try to take out and re-insert the SD-card first.

Find Cities can be done on the basemap, so what you describe is what happens when the detailed maps aren't recognized.
But the way you added maps is the correct way. MapInstall will remember your last set, so if you add to that, all maps will be transferred next time. Differently put, the map set you transfer will replace the map set on the card. So that implies that you have to transfer all the maps you want to use at every instance.
Check that the file is in the GARMIN folder on the card. Use FileZ to look for it. The file is called GMAPSUPP.IMG.
Check to see if you have any detailed maps recognized at all. Open GPS - Preferences - Maps - Detailed maps. There should show up a list of all map tile names. It takes a while, if your map file is large.
You can also look in the Q to see what detailed maps are there. Tap in the bottom row, middle area, where you see Satellite activity to bring up QueGps, tap on menu, preferences, change menu to maps and then change the right hand menu to detailed maps. There you should see, after a couple of seconds of loading (at least for me), all the areas in the build that is in the Q.

Hmm, seems to me that's what I said, in the last three sentences, right?

Sorry, I was skimming and didn't read all of your post before I started responding. One of the few tidbits of advise I can give and got excited, I guess ;)

You can also zoom out to the 500 mile/800 kilometre range and you will see outlined on the base map the map tiles you have in the iQue.
It will be a grayish color on the daytime maps or yellow on the night time maps.

Somebody didn't like that, and made them orange on the 3600a. Day and night.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I did a lookup on the card to see what detailed maps are out there. It shows nothing.
So here is what I am doing now. I did a format SD card to clean up the card, and now going back to Map Install to try to sync up the map again.
I don't remember whether I have the basemap loaded on the card or internal RAM, so might have to reload that too. Will see what happens. Will post result here.

Looks like that does the trick. I could search again now. Not sure what happened that caused this. I also reloaded the basemap.

Not that it matters, but it seems that the basemap was the only thing that did work, since you could search for cities. That's the only thing that does work from the basemap as well.
Back in the old days we would have asked what brand of SD card you are using, but I'm not sure if that's applicable any longer?
