I’ve been a Palm OS user for many years now and what I liked must about it was the system stability, but the 650 is an entirely different story, in the three days that I had it, a had to make a hard reset, a zero out reset (just learned about it) and many, many soft resets. And after all this the device keeps resetting itself some times when I unlock the keyboard and the screen and when I make phone calls of more than a couple of minutes. And it crashes when I use the Blazer browser for a little while.
I don’t Know what else to do or what is causing this, right now I’m just using the device with the built in software, so is not the problem of a third party software, the problem is coming from a defective built in OS.
Does anybody else is having this kind of trouble, I will be very grateful if somebody proposes me a viable solution.
Help!!!

A couple of weeks ago I finally acquired a Treo650, for which I had been holding out, to replace my T3/Sony-Ericsson T630 set up. That had worked like a charm for ages. It didn't need replacing, but the Treo650 looked like it could do everything as well whilst reducing the number of things to carry. And, hey, it's a new toy.
Trying to get the Treo650 to work properly just about drove me demented. It was possible to set up one app so that it worked properly: that stopped another one working. Or it would all work for a while, then one particular app would go pear-shaped. Only one hard rest? You've a long way to go.
Versamail was the real problem centre. It would generate a soft reset every time I tried to launch it - if there was an indicator in the phone app that I had a message, tap on it and WHAM! off we went again. Go to Versamail, try to launch it and WHAM! PalmOne Asia's help desk was about as much use as a chocolate teapot: the suggestion was to try a soft reset. Yeah, right.
I finally copied the user name folder (which had been carried over from my T3) to the computer desktop, removed PalmOne folder using control panel, went to >my computer>explore>programs and deleted the PalmOne folder (which I was somewhat surprised to find still existed) then reinstalled the Palm Desktop. I then did a hard reset of the handheld. Then a Hotsync (although this necessitated fiddling about, too, as it was necessary to manually install the USB driver each time) from the "virgin" Palm desktop. I then had the self-same problems for the first one or two occasions so repeated this procedure several times and then foudn that the native programs did run properly.
I had a lot of third party software loaded into my T3. Needless to say, they all co-existed happily but internecine warfare broke out when trying to install them onto the Treo650. The suppliers were, by and large, very helpful.
I then copied, one by one, each app EXCEPT Versamail from the backed-up user name into the virgin Palm desktop, syncing between each one. I deleted Versamail from the backup entirely and re-created each of my mail acocunts from scratch in the virgin Palm Desktop.
This did solve all of the issues but it took about four or five attempts to achieve - I suppose I must have missed the odd file.

Whoops! Wrong button!
What I had intended to add was that I rather suspected that Versamail had either a corrupted file or, worringly, a virus-type file that caused the problems. PalmOne's suggestion on this issue is not worth repeating.
It seems in retrospect that you have to do a completely "clean" installation - no vestige of files from a previous Plam OS must be allowed to exist in the PalmOne folder. It was very much trial and error for me, but I finally got there. I came close to throwing the blasted thing out of the window on more than one occasion.
Was it worth it? The jury's still out. It's a neat bit of kit. The screen is light years ahead of the T3. The phone sound is better than my T630 - but the operating program more complex. I can actually hear the thing ring - which is an advantage!
I put in a 1 gig card so there's no problem with space, but that would have been so with the T3 if I'd used the same card.
It's nice. But the T3 still is in its cradle and the T630 attached to its charger...

Thank you for the reply, but for the particular issue afecting my treo I think the versamail is not the cause because I had Freezes and "auto" resets using the device even before synching it the first time after a zero out reset. The versa mail is working fine, what is causing the problems is the phone and the Blazer, as long as the phone is turned off, everything works fine...And for that, of course, I also have a T3 and a Sony Ericsson Phone that work together like a charm.
I have been checking in every possible forum and trying every sugested solution and Nada. I think that in my case, the problem is a defective OEM software or a malfunctioning GSM or GPRS radio.
In the palm one support forum there is another case very similar to mine. I sent a mail to palmone support requesting a fix or a change of unit, I should have an answer within the next 12 hours. Hope that there is a software fix for this because I live in Mexico and have to travel to USA to send back the unit and to receive the new one a few days later and I read about cases that took 3 changes to get it right. I´ll keep you posted.

That does sound most probable. Good luck!
