I went out and picked up a bluetooth adapter last night so I could fool around with the sensor configuration utility. After pairing the GPS 10 with my computer, I activated the connection, however the bluetooth software refuses to assign the GPS 10 to anything other than com 9. Problem is, the Garmin sensor configuration utility will only allow you to go up to com 8, so I can't establish a connection...

Anybody have any ideas? I know bluetooth has some idiosyncrasies, but I just about pulled my hair out trying to figure out what should be a simple configuration setup.

Kefer, 2 things, what brand of adapter did you get and did you check to see if the software or drivers have been updated?

The adapter is an Actiontec. I did check their website, and it lists the most recent software as dated 8-13-03 (no version number), so I figured it was probably the same as what came on the disk, but maybe I should download it and give it a try...

Try a different USB port.

Can't you change the port number (in Win2K or XP) by going to device manager>Properties>advanced>portsettings for the port number that the USB connects to?

I actually figured it out, but I forgot to come back here and post the fix for any poor soul who has the same problem. Let me just say that for starters, Bluetooth configuration utilities are not very user friendly from my experience.

The problem really seems to stem from the Widcomm software that my Bluetooth adapter came with. By default, it installed a whole bunch of drivers for printers, network devices, etc., etc. After it had done that, the only bluetooth com ports available for i/o was 9 and above, which of course won't work with the GPS 10 since it won't pair with anything above com port 8. When I looked at the Bluetooth settings in device manager, I found one driver using com port 5, which I was able to delete and reinstall, forcing it to com port 10. Now com port 5 was available, which I was able to reassign to the Bluetooth i/o, then pair with the GPS 10 using com port 5. I'm guessing most folks would have thrown the little Bluetooth adapter out the window by this time, but I love a good challenge!

Shouldn't have been sooooo hard. But it works now :)

Kelsdogz, nice!

That fix was for XP. Can you do this trick in win2k also???
