I keep getting a message on my machine saying Applet not complete or not initialized.
I have switched on the plug-in in the Tools drop down on Web but all to no avail. What's going wrong? Any ideas much appreciated.

When are you getting this message? When you open Opera or Epoc WEB ? Could be worth while, reinstalling JAVA. Where is this installed on your C or D drive (CF)

The message you are getting is telling you that a Java applet on a web page has failed to get going. This could be for one of a number of reasons:
- you do not have the Java virtual machine (JVM) installed.
- you do not have enough RAM (C drive) space free.
- Web is a very poor web browser; Opera may not be free but it is MUCH better (especially at handling memory - Java needs lots!).
- the applet requires 'Java2' (i.e. Java 1.2 and upwards); the EPOC JVM supports only up to Java 1.1.4.
All this said, if you do not depend upon the particular applet to use the site in question, I would not be too bothered about the loss. The Java implementation on EPOC is quite poor and will just eat memory and slow down your machine overall.

I totally endorse all the points made there by diem.
A good example is the Java applet used by the EpocChat chatroom - it works fine with Opera (though initialisation can take a while - patience needed) but none of us has ever succeeded in getting it to work at all with EPOC Web.
Having said it works fine, it certainly does require a huge chunk of memory. I always have to make sure I have at the very least 7Mb free before firing up Opera. On the 5mx I always have Opera and the JVM installed to CF in drive D, by the way.
