A couple of days ago I installed a new version (Palm Desktop version 4.1.2.0) of my PDA’s “desktop” program on my laptop – but it wouldn’t open! I’ve been HotSyncing regularly, so I assume all my PDA data is stored in it – but if I can’t open it, how can I access it?

Each time I attempt to open Palm Desktop, I start to get the opening pattern but after a few moments an error-message saying “Palm Desktop Application has encountered a problem and needs to close”. Then when I look for details, there’s an “Error signature. AppName: palm.exe; AppVer:4.1.4.0; ModName: palmui.dll; ModVer:4.1.2.0; Offset:000072b7”.

If you have any suggestions on what I can do next to get to the info stored from HotSyncs, I’ll be very grateful! Also, how can I get all that stored info into another PDA (there’s another Tungsten E which I have the use of now).

Not sure about your error.

But if you want the same information on another Palm, just make sure they both have the same USERNAME.

i think thats how it works.

The older versions of palm used a folder in the C: root directory. Newer versions of Palm now use a folder in Program Files. Try going to the palm folder in Program Files and then double click on the Palm.exe file there. If it opens then right click on that file and create a new shortcut. Paste the shortcut to the desktop.

Your files are probably in the palm folder on the root directory. Be careful and copy the folder that is the name of your palm to the c:\program files\palm. When you get the Palm Desktop to open you can go to hot sync and then custom. You should then select change and the option that you want. Either overwrite desktop or overwrite palm. Go with were you know the files are the most current. I usually copy the whole palm folder to another location first. That way you have a backup that you can copy back to the original folder to go back to where you were.

Good Luck
