I received an email re release of LauncherX yesterday. It works great with the TT's D-pad. (Much better than its predecessor, LauncherIII, which was developed by the same person as LauncherX.) I also posted this on the General Discussion board. Here's the link to LauncherX's web site:

Promotion for registered LauncherIII users is $5.95 through November 30, so you might want to try is soon. Not sure how LauncherX compares with SilverScreen, LaunchEm, etc.

I've installed LauncherX and it looks very sharp. I like how customizable it is on the Tungsten with the various fonts, icons, and small icon support. The one place I've been having an issue, though, is with Kinoma. About 50% of the time, when I start a movie in Kinoma, the Palm resets. I've noticed this in Launcher III as well. It could be something with the Launcher, since they are based on similar code, but I would more suspect a slight incompliance with Kinoma. Not too sure yet.

Kinoma player has been working OK on my TT. I've downloaded movie trailers, videos (the one of the Porsche Boxster is cool!), and panoramas. All work OK with LauncherX. Have you tried a soft reset to see if that helps?

Also, here's an in-depth review of LauncherX:

Hope you resolve your Kinoma situation.

Hmmm... I've done multiple soft resets. Kinoma works fine on mine under the default Launcher, but causes the unit to reset under Launcher III, LauncherX, and YiShow. I was using the OS 5 version of each launcher as well. Also, just to note, Wordsmith 2.2 will crash the unit as well if you hit any of the hardware buttons while in a document. I mention this only because Palm's site states that WS v2.2 is OS 5 compatible. If you get the small patch from BlueNomad to take Wordsmith to v2.2.2, the problem goes away.

Both Kinoma Player and TealMovie are working without a hitch on my TT and using LauncherX. I installed the apps to my RAM first and tested. Then, I installed to my SD card and tried launching from there. No problems with either, so I deleted them off of my RAM to free up some memory. The movie and panorama files are stored on my SD card, too. ... It sounds like something else is causing a conflict with your TT's ability to use LauncherX and Kinoma. Have you tried removing WordSmith from your TT and testing Kinoma with LauncherX? I have not used WordSmith. I use DocsToGo Ver 5 and it is also working OK on my TT and co-existing with the other applications.

I still can't really see any big advantange to using Launcher X, zlauncher or any other launcher other than McPhling.
They hardly give much more in terms of functionality. Just a slightly prettier interface. I've repeatedly played with them and read the manuals... OK you can drag and drop into a garbage bin and drag and drop to re-categorize blah blah blah but you can also do the same with the built in launcher without that much more work!

What's the deal with all the excitement over these launcher replacements? I don't get it.

So, can you tell us all how to do all that drag-and-drop stuff with the built-in launcher?

If you don't like it, don't use it. It's that simple.

"you can do what amounts to the same thing using a different approach"

Duh, thanks for the advice, I never thought of that "if you don't like it don't use it..." Uhmmmm

I figured that. You just want a flame war.

Some people like Windows, too, even though (until XP) it's just a "slightly prettier interface" for DOS. Makes lots of stuff a lot easier, though.

yeah i've been anticipating launcher x for some time now. but in the meantime i was running megalauncher. but since i upgraded to os5, i've been using zlauncher. what's the difference? not much, it really is all the same, it's just what you become comfortable with.

launcher x has more promise are more people start to develop skins for it, if that's your thing. however, i ran into a bug on launcher x with appz stored on the memory card. that some of them were the wrong names or it linked to the wrong files.

so with that, i'm currently running zlauncher. but i am excited to see the new megalauncher which should be out really soon.

in the end it comes down to file size. they're all really huge! if you can't afford to give up space, stick with the default launcher. all three launchers i've mention take up about 400 - 500k depending on how many apps you have installed. the initial program is usually only about 150k, but it will create a cache and many preferences which just keep adding up. in the end, i just wished there was a nice, simple launcher with tabs that was only 50k. now that would be ideal.

If I may step in here. zippy, you are clearly attempting to start a flame war. You are out of line. I request that if you are going to post on these boards, that you don't try to start any activity of this kind. If you have something to contribute to this thread that is of importance, you may do so. But repeatadly stating your dislike for different kinds of launchers is inappropriate behavior. You stated them once and then again and again. Once is fine, but attacking what other people like is not good posting edicate. I would appreciate it if you would tone everything down, or otherwise stop posting. We want these boards to remain free of flame wars and other such things since we have young users here. Thank you.
