Last week my notebook was stolen going through airport security and I'm considering replacing it with an iPAQ, but I need help figuring out which models to consider and which accessories to buy. Here is what I need to be able to do while on the road:

1) send/receive email in Outlook (typically from a hotel room or office where there is a phone connection). My web hosting company allows for web-based email, but I'm not sure if that is supported on PPC.

2) Be able to access a couple of documents and make minor revisions to them. They are typically Word, PowerPoint, or Excel files. Sometimes the PowerPoint files can contain large graphic images in them and can be rather large.

3) Sometimes, when I'm not in a place where I can email a file, I need to be able to save a copy of the document to a disk.

4) Occassionally I need to be able to run PowerPoint presentations (e.g., be able to connect to a projection system).

Is it realistic to think a PDA could take on these tasks, and if so, what accessories should I consider?

I noticed that security doesn't typically make people take their PDA's out of their briefcase, which for me would have been a big plus! Has that been other people's experience?

Thanks for your advice!

If you want to do all that, I think I have something you are going to need. Email me or PM me.

It sounds like you might want to consider the following:

- iPAQ (3900 OR 5400)
- 512mb SD card (to store your large files and maybe some programs; this is a somewhat permanent storage solution since with a large enough card, you probably will not have to swap SDs)
- PC Card (or CF) modem card (if you go with the 3900 model)
- PC Card (or CF Card) Plus expansion sleeve (ditto, but might be nice for other types of adapters and storage)
- Modem (wireless or not, depending on your budget)
- Foldable keyboard

You should have no problem accessing pure html mail pages; using the Pocket IE browser to access mail programs such as Exchange mail using Outlook Web Access will not provide full access to that web application.

Dont hope much about your PDA, it really cant bring everything to satisfy you. In my case, my pda baby just make himself like a MP3 player. But if you want to work with it, maybe your should need a keyboard. Here are some cheap enough (around US$ 50 ) keyboard for ppc, maybe you'll need it..
