Hello,
I have done a hard reset of my HX4700.
I would like to understand the utility of iPAQ File Store.
I have read that it's not a good idea to install programs on it.
But there are 80Mb of available space there.
This directory can not be synchronized with active sync so it's not interesting to place documents there.
What can it be used for ?
On the other way after a hard reset, 11 Mb of RAM are already used. I remark that the ram descreases quickly when running a few applications.
Thanks for your time.

Great idea to install all your programs there. I and most others try to install as much as possible in the file store as this frees up main memory for running programs. The only application which sometimes are not happy running from the file store or storage card are today panel plug-ins.

Well use it then :)

No, but it can be included in an active sync back-up or an iPaq back-up. And if you only use it for installing application you do not need for it to be synced only backed-up

Installing all your applications

Yes it will do if you install everything in main memory. You should keep that as free as possible and that way you will have the maximum amount of memory free to rum your programs. I currently have 39.94Mb of free main memory out of 62.28Mb (64%) with 8.22Mb available for storage and 31.72Mb free for running programs. Storage card 85.06Mb with 57.86Mb free.
Thanks for your time.
No problem ;)

Very few apps will insist on being installed to RAM. Most of these will tell you that if you try to redirect them to a location they won't function from. The only thing you will notice is that the apps will load a little more slowly from ROM but, once loaded, they will run fine. As mentioned above, Today screen plug-ins should be installed to RAM. It takes the device a few seconds to power-up memory cards (this includes the on-device ROM storage area). Today plug-ins and utility apps that run at start-up are best installed in RAM.
If you want to install MobSync (a free app) you can create syncs with locations other than "My Documents" on both your device and your desktop. With this app, you can keep files in ROM that can be synced through the ActiveSync conduit.

I have reinstalled most of applications on the SD card.
I will see if it works properly.
Thanks for your help.
