Let's say you don't yet own a PocketPC. Which GPS solution would you (did you) go for: Garmin M5, or other brand PPC + GPS 10?

If you already own another PPC, please do not answer the poll because it will skew the results towards the GPS 10 answer.

I have the iQue 3600 but wanted improved PDA capability and opted for the GPS 10.

I paired the GPS 10 with a Dell X50v; let me tell you this thing is awesome!

The GPS functions nearly identical to the iQue 3600. As for the PDA function, the Dell is by far superior to the 3600 for my needs. I really like the transcriber as it allows me to write as I normally would, thus make input much easier. It transcribes near 100% accuracy. It seems to transcribe better after a day or so of use.

What’s even more awesome is I got rid of all the wires in my vehicle. I installed a Seidio mount with ProClip while hard wiring the Seidio mount. This thing practically looks like a factory install!

Better yet, all I need to do is slide the Seidio cradle off the permanent mount and pair it with the suction cup mount when traveling. I wish I had a decent digital camera. I'll see what I can do with my cameral phone and post some pics.

All and all I give GPS 10 a rating of 9 out of 10. It would have been 10 out of 10 had they supplied decent instructions for the installation and set up process.

:D

Same story here, I have and iQue, and I wanted to delve into the PPC world. I got an x50v, and I'm waiting until my birthday in April to get my GPS10. It wont permanently replace my iQue, but it will remain my primary.

I didn't choose my PPC, it was supplied by my employer. I think the GPS 10 would be my choice anyway, as it allows you to choose the other features you want. I have wanted an integrated PDA/phone for a long time. Now I have to get used to the peculiarities of that set up (be careful what you wish for.)

well I'm in the same boat. I have a iQue 3600 and would side with the GPS10. I was all set to buy it, with the Dell. But a friend game me a iPAQ4350 to Demo for as long as i want. Heck it does everything i need and seemed like a good pair with the GPS10.

Only problem was Garmin accepted my RMA out of warranty (battery was ridiculously low on life). And exchanged it free of charge! So I'm hanging with the iQue for at least the foreseeable future.

The M5 never crossed my radar, tho.

I am also an IQ3600 owner that crossed over to the PPC world at Xmas. I went with a Dell Axim X50mid. It has built-in bluetooth and Wifi and a SD slot and a CF slot. Seemed a natural to pair up with a GPS10 and no antenna to keep flipping up.

Hey, I just found where everybody moved.
I don't own either but I think a lot of people are like me and would want the M5 cause you just have one thing to carry and no wires. Poeple here are more teckie then average but average people like it easy and simply-no configuring, charging it up, turning it on, just open the antenna and you in business. Simple sells. I would forget it was in my car and when I went for a walk or in someone elses car I wouldnt have GPS.

I use my Gilsson antenna with my iQue, so i dont think ill have a problem when my GPS 10 comes.

I too wanted to improve my PDA capabilities, got the hp4705 with the g10 and never looked back.

Now I'm debating whether to sell the iQue 3600 or not.

Egmont,

The market seems quite flat these days and even in rip-off UK, there are deals to be had. My iQue is a dust magnet these days. One idea is to pass it on to a scout or cub corp as they will probably appreciate it.

Bokkie,

You are probably right, I just gave my Street Pilot III to my son to use on his motorcycle.

That reminds me, got to change my signature,

So I visited the Dell.ca site the other day and saw a promo for the Axim X50V worth $65. I also had a coupon worth $40. They were also giving free shipping. This was already the price point for the lower model. And the promo was ending at 10AM that day.

You probably know what happened - a damn impulse buy. I'm gonna get it by early next week.

As for what GPS to get, or if I'll even get one, I still haven't decided. I'm still mentally berating myself for succumbing to temptation.

I hope this means a FF version for the PPC. You could re do the whole GUI as far as I'm concerned. Give me controls I can see, and hit with my finger.

Or.......how about a tweaked Microsoft Voice Command to work with the Que app?

Voice command works pretty well for what it is programmed to do. I can start Que with a voice prompt but that is about it.

All you need to do is make little apps that would either touch the screen or launch different parts. I downloaded i think PHM tools, and it has little apps like shutdown, shut off screen, raise volume, etc. that can be launched via voice command.

I'll go for any of the above. I was using FF to launch all my apps on the 3600. Would that I could use it in inside them too. I like the PPC / phone combination, but I can barely see the PPC GUI. I have the text size turned all the way up, but that only works on a small percentage of the text.

We're going off topic here (what else is new), but according to this (http://www.windowsfordevices.com/sponsors/SP6617291797-NS9915015548.html), and API for Voice Command is in the works. However I'm still skeptical of how well Voice Command will be able to recognize speech in a noisy car with the mounted PDA three feet away from the speaker's mouth. I wonder if a wireless headset/microphone combo will work with it.

M5 here - the PDA is more than sufficient for my needs, and it's all in one - kind of the whole idea of a PDA - small & self contained.

Must confess I also have a GSM Blackberry for phone & wireless email/web.

Guess I could have got all 4 functions (GPS, PDA,phone & wireless) in one unit, but already have enough trouble talking on the phone and reading an email at the same time :-)

YMMV

Sold my 3600, BTW
