r380 world unlock?

hi,
just bought an r380 world from ebay with the data cable. is there any unlocking software out there that will work with this phone? i am in the uk and need it unlocked to work with the orange network.

the R380 World despite being toted as a 'World' phone only has 2 GSM bands - 900 and 1900, Orange uses the 1800 GSM band which means that the R380 doesn't work with that network, it also doesn't work with T-Mobile or Virgin Mobile.

I've just brought an R380 World and had to get a new Sim card - Only Vodafone and O2 (formery BTCelnet) use the 900 GSM Band and the 1900 is for the USA.

Sorry the only way your gonna get the thing working over here is to switch to O2 or Vodafone.

It seems strange to me to use the word "World" and then the phone is only dual-band. I had just assumed that it would be tri-band until you enlightened me yesterday, Shadow.

Great little device though - if I hadn't already got my Ericsson GPRS phone, I would have been VERY tempted to one of these!

they can use the word 'World' in the phone name is because you can still use it in most of the world, most European countries use the 900 GSM band and the 1900 GSM Band covers the USA so technically it still is a world useable phone. since i've been using my R380 (3 days) it's been a great addition to this guys gadgets

I need the original R380 Communications Suite for Ercisson R380. I lost the CD which I got - and as I re-install
the system on my PC recently I can't synchronize my R380 with my PC at all. Could anybody help me, please?
(The software is not available on ericsson's webpage - I even wrote to them). Could anybody place the thing
somewhere on the web so that I could download it? Thanks a lot

sorry i can't help you there, my CD specifically asks you to choose either the R380world or the R380e not the original R380, this leads me to suspect there might be differences if the sync software between the different models of R380. do you have a R380 or does it have a letter after the R380 on the bottom of your phone ie R380e, r380s???

i find it weird that the software for an UNLOCKED phone would inlcude the option to install the software for a potentially locked phone. anyway, maybe it would work i'll check to see how big it is and see if i have enough webspace to upload it

My model is R380s but I suppose that the sync software should be the same for R380s and R380e.

R380e is newer model than R380s. Difference between them is quite small. Color is a bit lighter blue on e. Battery life is better and there is a newer version of software. e software works well on s model as well because hardware of thiese two models is allmost identical.

e version sync software works fine with s version phone. you might allso have allready e software loaded on your phone. You can tell the difference by the following. e software has additional inknote function under phone menu and tetris under games. Its possible to upgrade the software on the phone if you take your R380 to the nearest SonyEricsson service center. They might charge some small fee for upgrade.

I do have the Inknote fuction on my phone as well as Tetris - so that means that I do have e version of the software. Thanks a lot for your advice. My problem now is that I can't get the synchronization software (R380 Communications Suite). It's not available on the sonyercisson web page. I contacted both the Ericsson global and local support and I was told that the software is not available at the moment.
Do you think you could possibly upload the R380 Communicatios Suite on the web somewhere where I could download it (or alternatively - burn in on a CD and send it over to me - for which I would gladly pay)?
