I assume that you are using the DI28 clip-on IR modem with the T29? It should work with standard Ericsson settings but you could also try using the Comms application to check that the phone (modem) is responding properly to AT commands.

Settings for "Control Panel / Modems" are:

------------------
Name - Ericsson
Speed - 57600
Connect - Infrared
Fax Class - Auto
------------------
Init (reset) - ATZ
Data - (blank)
Fax - (blank)
------------------
Flow - Hardware (RTS/CTS)
Terminal (DSR/DTR) [ ] not checked
Carrier (DCD) [ ] not checked
Type - Mobile
------------------

If you find that it is timing out without dialling, try changing the last setting above from "Mobile" to "Fixed line". You might also find you need to install the "Mobile Connectivity Update" which can be downloaded from the Series 5 page of my website.

Can you give any more details about the exact problem -

* Is it dialling at all?

* Is it dropping the connection with an error message?

* Did you try getting a response from the phone with Comms?

Create the file path C:\Logs\Etel\ and, after your next connection attempt, there should be a log file in the Etel folder which might give an indication of the problem.

Thanks MikeMcC.
At preset i'am at work (Drillingrig Northsea), so i cant check exact what the 'error' screen say.. something like : Could not find the modem, check you modenconnction. i did so..
There is a 'symbol' in the T29 screen saying the Moden is connectet..
No i did not check with Comms!! (did't now what it was :-)..
I did Controlpanel check, all was looking good..
If you dont mind could you place explain the ' Comms check' for me???

Thanks

No i did not check with Comms!! (did't now what it was :-).. You will find the "Comms" application in the Extras bar. Open Comms and, in the menus go to "Tools > Communication settings..." and set the "Use comms port" line to Infrared.

If you type AT and press Enter, the phone (DI28 modem) should respond with OK. This will confirm that the modem is responding. You should be able to dial your ISP by entering ATDnnnnnn, where 'nnnnnn' is your ISP's dialup number. You cannot negotiate a TCP/IP internet connection with Comms but your ISP should respond with the "Username" prompt.

I'm really not sure I know the answer to that. It is possible that SMS won't work with your phone - I have a Siemens S35i which never worked with the SMS application in 'Email' and I had to use PhoneMan Pro from www.zenobyte.com

The error message you are quoting there is certainly what you see if the Psion doesn't recognise your phone, but since you're sending e-mail OK I guess you didn't make any mistake with the modem settings.

Just a thought, but did you get the Psion to read off the SMS service number from the phone? Sorry if that's stating the obvious, but I thought it worth a mention.

Have a look at XJMail, although I haven't tried it. I believe that it supports "SMTP Authentication" which some smtp mail servers now require.
