I have recently changed jobs & I wanted to set up the ActiveSyn for my iPAQ 3970 at home.

It was working fine at my previous job running under Windows NT & the USB.

At home I have an older PC running Windows 95 and no USB, so I am using the COM1 port. This is also used for my modem and I can plug both the modem & another connection through a switching box (i.e. one connection to the PC & two connections out with a switch to choose which out connection to use).

The Active Sync installs fine & works on the 1st connection. However on subsequent connections (even after rebooting) it does not recognise my iPAQ & connects it as aGuest.

I have tried reinstalling ActiveSync on the PC but with no sucess.

Can anyone please offer any suggestions?

In ActiveSync got to File->Connection Settings... and make sure that the "Allow serial cable or infered..." is checked and has the COM1 chosen in the dropdown box. ActiveSync might be seeing the modem and automaticaly removing the COM1 as a connection option.

Also, you probably should not have the ipaq cradled while the switch is pointing to the modem; the ipaq might think there is a problem since it cannot sync with the host computer.

Thanks for both suggestions but neither had the desired effect.

I can see that other people are having the same problem, so I am still open to suggestions
