Someone should start compiling a FAQ on the M5 and GPS 10. Anders did an excellent job on the other forum. Who's up for the challenge?

If Garmin would get off their butts and make the GPS 10 more widely available in the UK I'd be happy to chip in.

Hey Bokkie, can't you order it from the US?

I'm willing to help if you can't order direct.

I'll get it started right here:

Here's a list of everything I know about PPC's:

1. .....

Here's a list of everything I know about the GPS 10

1. 10 is a larger number then 9

Here's a list of everything I know about the M5

1. hmmm, nope nothing

OK I got the ball rolling if anyone wants to take over, now's a good time.

Let me put my 2 cents (pennies?)in, mind you, I am a total newbie with little time to practice lately.

I did a very unscientific GPS comparison between the G10 and the iQue3600.

As a whole, both units tracked very well and by looking at the map, no difference.
I then switched to the satellite view. Here I did see a difference while driving. I found -CC you will be happy- that the iQue locked on to more satellites with a stronger signal consistently.

As for the PDA functions and display, there is just no comparison and if I need third party software to make it as close perfect as possible, so be it.

Egmont, to be fair, I want to point out that there has always been a lot of variance between one iQue and another in this area so if you compared some additional GPS 10's and iQue's you might find the GPS 10 coming out on top.

Statistically insignificant

I totally agree and it was not meant to be.

I also played with both units and my laptop running DeLorme Street Atlas 2005 (all used external antennas on the dash board) and here I just compared Long/Lat. I was amazed on how close these numbers where on all three units.

To me it basically means that it does not matter what GPS, as long as I like the features of the PDA.

You can start a FAQ like I did for the iQUe. You take notes and compile a file. Once it's posted in a thread somebody else will feel it could be done better and so they take over to your relief!

The registry tweak links that AnswerDude gave in another thread should go straight into a FAQ. The intital problem is how to structure the FAQ around the forum's main issues but it seems this forum has gone on for long enough for that to be discerned.

Wow! I have the absolute exact opposite result. The GPS 10 is much faster at acquisition and gets far more satellites at a much stronger signal strength.

Are you comparing the GPS 10 to an iQue with an external antenna (which I never had), or using the internal antenna? Maybe my iQue is a dog...which isn't really a big problem since it is now a paperweight on my desk anyways ;)

Well this is what CC eluded too.

I had a Gilsson(?) antenna on the dashboard, not more then 5 inches apart from the G10.

I guess the acquisition and strength varies depending in what part of country (world) you are in, also if you are in rural or in a urban setting.

My guess is that when the dust settles it will look like this, in this order:

1. iQue with Glisson

2. GPS 10 with (anything it works with)

3. iQue with flip up antenna only

I had a test of the Gilsson running over night with Skyview in iQue Birdwatch. With a free view of the sky, the Gilsson has over 53 dB signal quality from 50 degrees elevation up. The inner circle of the sat view screen is at 45 degrees so for all practical purposes it means that the reception is as good as it can be (shown by Garmin's reference system). The top line of the five at the sat screen is at 50 dB. The maximum reading I have seen is 55 dB.

I have seen few screenshots of the GPS10 with signals going up to 50 dB. Usually bars have been shorter.

So I think CC's guess is right.

I believe that there are many BT GPS receivers that have a better performance than the GPS 10. But if you need Garmin protocol, the 10 is your only choice.

Why bother: With many signals above 45 dB (fourth line)acquisition and reacquisition is faster.
