Has anyone tried to successfully establish a wireless Internet, E-mail or ActiveSync connection between the iQue M5 and a USB Bluetooth adapter attached to a desktop PC running Win XP SP2?

I connected a Linksys USB Class 1 Bluetooth (BT) adapter to my desktop PC and successfully installed it. The iQue M5 could correctly detect and pair with the PC. Both sides could properly see the BT services offered and connect to them. A connection to the Network Access service was successful, but when I tried to view a web page via the Pocket IE, it said "Dial, could not connect", or it would just keep on waiting with nothing to display. There is nothing to dial. My PC has broadband Internet connectivity via a cable modem.

I'm sure there's some setting I am overlooking. Can anyone help me out or give me any pointers on how this problem can be solved.

Thanks & regards,

Yogesh.

There are several bluetooth guides here:

For the network access service, you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing on your LAN interface, and configure the Bluetooth network adapter as the home interface.

If you set up an ActiveSync connection via a Bluetooth serial port then you can also access the Internet via this connection (no other configuration required). The Bluetooth software I installed on the PC allowed me to create an ActiveSync service, but you can do the same thing with simple Bluetooth serial ports. Just configure ActiveSync to listen to the inbound Bluetooth serial port in its connection settings, and when connecting to the Bluetooth serial port from the PDA, specify ActiveSync rather than Serial as the connection type.

Sorry, forgot to mention that for the network access service connection to work, you need to create a connection entry on the PDA specifying Bluetooth LAN Access as the modem, '...' as the number and a blank username, password and domain. I have a vague suspicion that this was done automatically at some point, but I can't remember the details.

The ActiveSync route works just as well, and involves a lot less configuration both on the PDA and on the PC.

The Activesync via bluetooth will work and is a bit simpler to do albeit at a little bit slower data transfer rate, at least from what I have seen. Wow, a class 1 bluetooth connection, you should be able to connect to that from a few more places in the home.
