Greetings to ique users,

I recently bought a second hand ique 3600 and was happy until i found out the following problems:

1. the battery completely discharges on its own in about 8 hours, when it's off!

If I don't charge it every 8 hours or so, even when it's turned off, it loses all charge and loses all the info in RAM. Very much like doing a hard reset.

When the unit is turned off and left alone, off the charger, the bottom/rear end of the unit is slightly warm, but not too warm.

2. It also only lasts about 40 mins or so in full brightness setting while in use, on battery alone.

3. this unit came with Garmin cradle but it came with a universal charger (from Optex) whose the voltage is set to 5V. and it says the maximum current is 2500mA.

I'm very concerned about these issues and would like to hear from you iQue masters!

#1 is very disturbing, closely followed by #2, but #3 can be the culprit?

thanks very much

Don

Hi,
It lookd like you will have to send your Q to Garmin for repair...
You can't replace the battry by yourself.

Actually you can replace the battery by yourself. There have been several threads here that discuss the exact process of doing this. In fact, one of them actually shows you how to do it.

I do recall a post around here somewhere which has a few pictures of the battery replacement should you decide to attempt it yourself.

It doesn't look complicated, however, I think the recommended fix is to have Garmin service it.

I'd say you have a bad battery or a short somewhere. Garmin may fix it for free. I had a similar issue with mine. It would barely stay charged overnight, and at full brightness, I literally could watch the battery meter fall to zero and it would switch off in less than a minute.

Your time of 40 minutes at full brightness is bad, but might not be entirely outside the envelope. At full brightness under heavy use, I might get 1-2 hours, but I'm on the low end I think. Others seem to get better results.

I can't help you on the charger. I think the USB chargers are 5V chargers. But it sounds like you are experiencing the same problem even when charging in the cradle.

When I contacted Garmin about my battery problem, they promptly arranged for me to ship it back to them for repair at no charge (other than shipping to them). I had a new unit (with a much later serial number) back in my hands in less than a week. No harm in asking them....worst they can do is tell you "no".

The correct voltage for the iQue is 5 VDC, 1 A.

Almost the same battery question. I used my Q yesterday It work fine. Before that it was on the charger. Today I got Home and I left my Q off the charger over night and when I look at the screen it was flashing off and on with the palm powerd logo. When I hit the power button The erase all info screen came up and the only way i could get it to stop flashing is to hit yes and not its fine on the charger. Any Ideas?

Is this a battery problem? Its a least a year and a half old

A simple test must be to run the Rundown application, and compare your unit to "normal" units. If the endurance is significantly impaired, then your battery is ready to take down the sign.

Sounds like something you were running on your Que got stuck in the infamous "reset loop".

There are some posts around here about that...search.

I think what happened was that the reset loop started, and when you pushed the power button, it tried to do a hard reset.

You initiate a hard reset by holding down the power button and doing a soft reset.

That's why it asked you if you wanted to erase all data.

Hopefully it was a fluke misbehaving program and not a regular error.

I called garmin in kansas and they told me that i'll have to send the unit in.

They told me to send it to this company in Laval Quebec called Raytech Electronique.

Apparently, browsing for repairing experiences regarding Raytech, i have some reservations but I'll give them benefit of doubt and send it in. The biggest problem for Raytech seems to be the slow-as-molasses-turnaround time.

Thanks for all the input you gave. It was really helpful.

My turnaround was 11 days as I reported here (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=247130&highlight=laval#post247130).

I called on the 6th day and a technician hadn't even looked at the unit.

But overall I was happy with the results.
