There seems to be various discussions, both in this forum and on the 'net in general, on the problem whereby on first connect of a unit (in my case an Ipaq3870) a partnership is set up ok and a sync happens, however on every subsequent connect the unit is only found as "Guest". In none of the discussions have I been able to find a solution, other than to delete Activesync and reinstall (and then the same cycle starts again).

I started off running WinME with Activesync 3.5 when the problem first occurred (just appeared to happen out of the blue) so upgraded to Activesync 3.6 with no success, and now Im running WinXP Home with Activesync 3.6 with the ongoing problem

I have tried re-registering the MSXML & MSXML3 DLL's, soft resetting the unit, hard resetting and rebuilding the unit, ... just about everything I can think of without any success.

Has anyone had any luck overcoming this annoying problem ?

Cheers

Not a real fix but much simpler than reinstalling ActiveSync:

1) Turn off your PDA.
2) Go "Start" -> "Run" and type "syncmgr /quit"
3) Turn on your pda again.

I had this happen 1 time to me using activestink on my laptop XP. I freaked when it happened. My resolution might be different than yours. My unit has 2 usb ports. In the orginal set up i used usb 1, upon sinking the 2nd time, i used usb 2 & got guest setup. I quickly switched back to usb 1 & had no problem. It sync ed i wiped sweat off my head & moved forward from their!;) :p  :)

My Ipaq 2215 syncs okay in the cradle, but not wirelessly. It had been syncing fine both ways. Now I keep getting Guest when I connect with activesync 3.7 with a wireless connection. Any ideas? Stephen
