revo ... synch / backups

hi ...
i am new to the revo and impressed..; but am having same laptop interconnect problems as i had for 5 years with texas hheld organiser!
9 times out of ten the link cannot be established --- is there a secret ? (as there was with the texas pda).
i have the same problem of failure to link whether i connect via usb or via serial cable!

is it possible to backup using the infra red facilty?

I used the search facility for "sync problem" in the Revo forum, and found this previous discussion:
