Actually looks kinda cool...

Putting a HDD in it makes a lot of sense, but will it be too much for a pda? iPods and other HDD based mp3 players seem to work ok, why dont more pda manufacturers go to hdd based? slower? lower batt life?

big change from introducing low end models as key sellers. i wonder how successful it really will be?

is it vga?

Front flap on the iPaq is all the moving parts I want. With 4GB cf, why would a HD be attractive? I know I've heard there's progress with Hitachi's new vertical drive format and that there are supposed to be 20GB micros by 2007, but isn't flash based memory heading there as well?

Cost? A 4Gb CF is $300 while the 4Gb Lifedrive palm will be less than $500.

Flash based memory will always cost more than microdrives, and the capacity will also lag behind. I don't know how reliable the technology is, but iPods seem to work fine.

Good point on the price. I think it may be interesting to see which is cheaper in a couple years though. Flash based memory tends to significantly drop in price as larger capacities come out.

It's funny to see how micros are priced. I remember reading an article when micro drives were relatively new where you could buy a Muvo II (I think that was the model) for 299 and take it apart for the 399 (Retail) hitachi micro in it. Go figure....

As far as the iPod, I've heard stories on the web about problems with the drives failing. Especially with more active users.

OT: I'm back (as you can see :D ) I was sort of out of commission for a bit as my home PC went for a header. I finally gort all my parts in and the new system is up and running, woohoo! I don't have much to report though as everything is working wonderfully on the GPS 10 side of things (and the iPaq for that matter).

Wifi is a long awaited for feature on a palm os device, that would attract me. I have always been weary of the microdrives. Are they as fast as sd? are they reliable?

Never mind, most Noble of Rats. My problem sort of resolved itself but why I'm not sure. Refer back to that thread for the update.
