I remember reading a few posts about people having problems with online banks, mainly due to Opera v5 dating somewhat. I use First Direct and discovered that their elaborate browser detect and auto page assign JavaScript just doesn't work with Opera - PC v6 flavour, too.

The best thing to do is to download the JS includes, open them with a text editor and search for the pertinent URL/s. For First Direct this is:

http://www.firstdirect.com/trends/intbanking_refer.html

Once you are able to go straight to the login pop-up Opera v5 works perfectly.

The same is true for the Bank of Scotland:

https://www.iblogin.com/hobsinternet/en/internet/index.jsp

Although v5 has a minor problem with there JavaScript. To enter a monetary amount e.g. £212.15 type it into a blank Epoc document them copy and paste it into the field. This gets round the annoying JS decimal point syntax checking.

egg, of course, works a treat. Although its hideously slow in operation, despite a broadband connection.

Hi

I e-mailed Opera about something similar but they don't answer tech queries any more.

Could you please see if the NatWest site would just let you in using your method (which I don't seem to understand) - it might be pretty similar to the RBS one.

Incidentally I can get through my French bank site perfectly (Credit Agricole)

thanks for checking this out

Steve

Hi Steve,

I've just had a crack at Natwest and it bad news, I'm afraid . . .

At every step, right up until the point where you are allocated a session ID, their scripts perform browser detects. There is no possible way to use Natwest via an unsupported browser without maliciously hacking into their system and altering some scripts.
