Hi all!

I noticed on the swedish hompage for Dell that they have an Axim with integrated GPS...

Is there anyone here that know anything about that?

It has a 624MHz CPU so I think it might be worth considering when looking for a new PPC/GPS.

Or is it as I have a litle concern about that Garmin just knows the thing better!?? ;)

Dell make rock-solid equipment but I'm cautious about anyone who makes an integrated GPS other than the companies to whom it is their essential expertise.

Maybe you could send a pm to Anders at aperrson850 for his input. He being Swedish and totally fluent in English as well he can comment as he is intensely knowledgeable about such things. Mention my name to him. I'm sure he'll thank you profusely!:D

Does that make it a goody or a baddy?

I honestly don't know as there are so many BT-gps devices on the market today but what I meant to say is that this is not a DELL device, they just bought it Taiwan and put it in their own plastic box.

Actually all gps-devices are made in Taiwan (SysOnChip is an exception and comes from Korea), even our Garmin gps 10 is made there. ;)

And when you think how much the workers there get paid by Garmin to manufacture and assemble the GPS 10, the price they charge us is almost pure profit! I'll wager they are not paid US or European labour rates, but as sure as "eggs is eggs" they charge us European prices.

I see a McLibel brewing?:)

I would not say its pure profit. There are other things to consider when manufacturing over seas. Since there is a considerably longer supply chain this equates to more inventory to fill that chain, thus creating higher inventory carrying costs.

I'm sure they are manufacturing over seas due to least total cost as the savings in cost of labor out weighs the additional costs of transportation, inventory carrying costs and duties.

Just my 2 cents!
