How do I get the original transcriber back without doing a " hard re-set " Thanks Karl AnswerDude 04-14-2005, 09:46 AM The latest version of Transcriber is already in the ROM, so after uninstall the old one, just soft reset the ipaq. Karl H 04-14-2005, 10:35 AM Thanks for the quick reply After soft re-set all I have is Block Recognizer; Keyboard and Letter Recognizer Thanks Karl AnswerDude 04-14-2005, 10:52 AM Try open File Explorer on the ipaq, browse to Windows folder, locate Transcriber.exe and click on it. Karl H 04-14-2005, 12:49 PM In explorer / Windows there is no Transcriber.exe only Transcriber Application Shortcut and dll thanks Karl AnswerDude 04-14-2005, 12:55 PM The built-in file explorer does not show file extension, without the extension, it's the one that just says Transcriber and if there are 2 of them click on the one with larger size, or use other file explorer that show extension. Karl H 04-14-2005, 01:10 PM The only files I can find are under Windows and the two filest are not executable. Thanks Karl AnswerDude 04-14-2005, 01:25 PM Using the built-in file explorer on my machine, there are 2 Transcriber files, one has the size of 137k and dated 10/22/04, the other one is 30b and dated 4/11/04. The larger one is the executable file. If you are certain that you cannot click and run it, or it's not there, then you will have to hard reset to get it back. Karl H 04-14-2005, 01:42 PM Thanks for all your help Karl Karl H 04-14-2005, 02:19 PM Hello just let you know, I had backed up my pda recently and i got my transcriber back. Thanks for all your help Karl franck47 04-14-2005, 03:18 PM I have exactly the same problem. I found transcriber.exe in the windows folder and I launched it. But when I go to settings / input method, I don't see the transcriber (only keyboard, block reco, letter reco). If I try to re-execute transcriber.exe, I get the message transcriber already running. Could you help me ? Thank you AnswerDude 04-14-2005, 03:27 PM Originally posted by franck47 I have exactly the same problem. I found transcriber.exe in the windows folder and I launched it. I'll perform a HW reset. Thank you AnswerDude 04-14-2005, 04:02 PM Originally posted by franck47 It doesn't work (I tried several time, performing reset). I'll perform a HW reset. Thank you Another thing to try is to install PHM Task Manager http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/TaskMgr/ and use it to close the running Transcriber process (which probably got run at every startup) and see if re-running Transcriber.exe will help. Otherwise hard-reset will work as well. AnswerDude 04-14-2005, 04:27 PM If you havn't hard reset yet, i just thought of a quick way that may work. Select other input menthod, then see if you can rename Transcriber.exe to something else, then if you can, it means that the older and not working version of transcriber.exe is still there even after uninstall and kept getting run at startup. So try to rename it and soft reset, the good one in ROM may show up, and run properly, then you can delete the file that you renamed. franck47 04-14-2005, 04:47 PM I loaded TaskMgr and I saw that after a soft reset transcriber is not automatically launched. When I launch it manually, of course I see it with TaskMgr, but never in the input method. Don't worry it's not a problem for me to perform a hard reset and to reinstall programs. Many thanks for your help. PDA Street
