Hi

Hope someone can help with my problem.

Whenever I selct the Add/remove icon from within Control Panel I get the searching for installed programs then it goes to the 'About Netbook' screen (no bleeps) before returning to the desktop with the default settings. It does not remove any running programs.

Anyone any suggestions on how I fix it?

I would try a soft reset first.

Tried a soft reset, did not help.

Any other suggestions, although I might not like the answer?

Appears to have a problem getting information on 1 of the installed programs.

Hmmm, okay, perhaps one of the files in C:\System\Install is damaged?

All I can think of trying (laborious though it will be), is temporarily moving each of the files out of this folder one by one, and trying to open the add/remove control panel each time. If the panel fails, replace the file you just moved since it would not appear to be at fault. If the panel opens successfully, then you've found the culprit.

From the name of the file, you'll be able to work out which application folder (in C:\System\Apps) to prune and reinstall. EPOC doesn't have a 'registry' or any other such M$ rubbish, and most shared libraries (OPx files - the EPOC equivalent of DLLs) are used by many apps so this form of 'manual' uninstall is not to be feared ;)

If you really want to know whether there are any shared libraries that are no longer in use, search out Ralph Sprenger's excellent OPXScan - its free!
