While I was waiting for my RMA iQue to arrive, my sister (who also has an iQue) ordered a second cradle. Since I needed a serial cradle (to sync in Linux, as my windows boxen are all kinda crappy), I had her order a serial cradle, and gave her my USB cradle.

Now I have a new iQue and a new serial cradle, and when I hotsync (I even tried it on Windows), it gets partially through the sync before an error occurs and the sync cancels. Can I troubleshoot it without having to bother my sister to borrow her USB cradle?

Also, is there any way to resume a partially-failed sync? Or, is there a way to backup the internal memory contents to my sd card? (Maybe that last question deserves a thread of it's own...)

You can open the Hotsync manager, and set the various conduits to "Do nothing". If you look at what it's doing when it fails, try to disable that one, and see if you can get through the rest. Sometimes that helps, and all of them work afterwards.

There are several backup programs available, to make backups to your card. Backupman and Cardbackup are but two of them. If you search for these words here, you'll find threads dealing with this issue.

When I bought my iQue, it won't sync using the USB sync cable with universal connector that I used earlier with Palm m505, althought technically there is no reason why it shouldn't. I don't understand why. But, I have no problem syncing with the m505 cradle.

I don't think you could resume a partially failed sync.

A partially failed sync can't be restarted from the spot where it failed....it's not an FTP type of sync.

However, if your set to "sync" it doesn't make any difference. The date stamp on records in the sync - they should only change as necessary.

You can look at the sync log and determined where the sync failed and then go into the handheld and at the hot sync option pull down the menu and see the Conduit Setup. You can turn off and on individual programs and there conduit here based upon what you want to sync etc.

If your using a serial cable as described I would set many of these to "off" or unchecked to speed up the sync process but then the data won't be backed up.

Things like "calculator" etc that are in ROM can be turned off because the program would restore upon a hard reset but the data would be lost - big deal.
