OK I'm reluctantly thinking of converting to PPC (why? My life organized software).
I don't care about either kind of wireless. Looking for PPC that will fit in my pocket and does not weight a ton.
On the other hand, the software that I'm interested in is an outliner/organizer so having a larger screen is a good thing.
A very knowledgable person (Bob Pankratz) also converting to PPC for the same reason just bought HP 2705 (ebay).
When asked why 2705 over the HX4705?
He replied: "More memory. Faster FileStore, better battery life, no dumb touch pad..... That and I found most ppc software still runs much better
at QVGA than at VGA"
Other thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks for your time.
P.S. oh and please tell me that PPCs are reasonably mature and don't crash too often

What is your budget? That will narrow down the choices quite a bit. The comment above about the two iPAQ models are fairly accurate. But the bigger 4 " vga screen of 4700 is very attractive and the 2700 is geared towards business use with features that you may not need such as biometric security. And if you are price-conscious, Dell Axim has several models that provides good values and features for the prices.
And in this thread:

there are links to palm to ppc articles that you may find useful.

Thanks for the reply.
Budget isn't an issue. But
A. the thing lives in my pants pocket 24/7 when not in use and it sounds like the 4700 is a brick and not something I'd want to carry with me all the time.
B. it gets a fair amount of use and if the thing can't run 3 hours between charges--forget it (with backlight, but no wireless or music).
Given these limitations and the fact that I never use wireless...anything else to consider besides the 2700?
Thanks.

First in term of power usage, all current pocketpc has removable battery, so get an extra battery and you won't have to worry about it.
The iPAQ 2700 is a good model, and you will probably be happy with it, it depends mostly on what you will be using it for. Again the 2700 is designed more for business, you may not be fully utililzing its speed, and softwares that comes with are more towards business use. The rx3000 series are designed more towards consumer and recreational features.
Finally Dell Axim x50v, the vga model is also a good model, more and more programs are designed for vga screen, and you may want to find a store to see pocketpc with vga screen compare to qvga , for many users after seeing the difference, they won't go back to qvga screen.

get an axim, you'll be glad you did... Your paying like HALF of what you would pay for a comparable model of another brand, and its dell, great quality, and great support. If your after a really good screen, check out the Axim x50v, its suposed to have a really slick screen..... I just dont even understand people buying other brands..

It never occured to me about the removable battery....then it is a non-issue.
I'll have to check them out in the store to see what he meant by:
"ppc software still runs much better at QVGA than at VGA"
also to see which are small enough to live in my pocket 24/7.
Thanks for the advice.

I think what he meant is that some programs still do not fully support vga mode, so they double the pixel to fill the vga resolution, and in some cases they look worse than running the same programs on qvga screen. As i said, more and more programs are starting to use vga correctly, and there are some utilities that can force many programs to run in full vga mode. With programs that corretly use vga mode, they just look better especially in area like video.
