Voicemail on Cingular

I am trying to program my password into the voicemail speed dial. When I use the sliding keyboard to insert a character, other than a numeral, I get a message that says that I need to input characters from the dialpad only. If I want to add pause to the phone number, how do I do it?

Thanks for the response. It didn;t work, but got me thinking. It turns out that the pause character is 'p'.
