I haven't seen this done yet, so I put screencaps of maps output by the PPC and the iQue for comparison.

The maps are arranged in the following order.
iQue 3600 (480 X 320)
PPC Que app (320 X 240)
PPC Que app in VGA mode (640 X 480)

I have screen caps at a scale of 120m, 200m, 300m, and 500m. Some color information has been lost because I needed to convert to JPG to fit in the 100kb limit for attachments.

All map preferences are set to default settings. Right-click and open in new window for side-by-side comparison.

IMHO, the iQue photos win. Hands down.

Don't be stupid!:D

Take a look at the maps in 640x480 res which the HX4700 can do. It's only because Garmin don't support that res natively that the GPS 10 Que maps look kind of clunky - at this moment in time, and that the icons cannot scale. Another release and it will all change. So I say to you, Statsman, choose your words with care. You will answer to me.

Ha, Ha, Ha!

Very Humorous, Bokkie.

waidaminute.....4700 plus GPS 10. Isnt that like $1000 worth of equipment there? Or close to it.

(ok, here we go again, mac vs. PC)

Your turn Bokkie!!

(hey, btw, I assume you got your 4700 back fixed ok?)

rkevwill,

the more you spend the better the gadget, eh? My PDA and GPS is company funded so no problem there for me.

As for Mac .v. PC. That's a no-brainer to me. If someone put in front of me a Mac and said here we have a burger (of sorts); that is the product of a company that pays less than the minimum wage; uses bread rolls that have the nutritional equivalent of cardboard; salads that are bacterially toxic and which garden snails protested with placards "We want real lettuce. Down with slime"; meat that is the product of animal husbandry more akin to the killing fields of the Somme in WW1; and sauce that has the viscocity of sewing machine oil and in fact sewing machine oil is tastier.

Or lay before me a PC and tell me there is not a single component within that is designed to work with each other; a motherboard that is redundant the moment it leaves the factory; is controlled by software that is the product of 20 years of maintenence hacks; it's OS still smells of 8088; and is contained in an awful plastic case which year-after-year wins the Scrap Merchant's Piece Of Crap award.

Given the choice of the two what would you choose? To be honest, the Mac probably wins it by a short head! I presume we are talking about the same Mac?

Yes, my 4700 is behaving very well now thank you. 3600 RMA's were very rare I recall!:p

hehe, actually that was the only part of the note that I wasn't kidding on. Last time I personally heard of your 4700, was when it was still away, and just wondered how that repair went.

From my memory, yep, there were quite a few RMA's as I recall. FORTUNATELY (knock on wood) mine has never been in for repair. Not sure if the very early ones like mine were more bulletproof or ?

I played with my son's Axim the other day. The wifi works nicely, however on his, it seems to be a pain to change from landscape to portrait. I need to play with it some more, to see if I could stand even being around one.

Landscape to portrait switching can be mapped to a hardware button.

You might find this thread (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56636) interesting, where I described Axim from the perspective of an iQue owner. I'm not pushing either platform, just giving a sober point-by-point comparison.

Good time to ask this question to JM and Bokkie and any others. Does there happen to be a PPC that HAS a flip cover? Either as standard or as a good aftermarket one? I agree JM, about the bulk and ease issue. If I am packing for a long trip, and have no use for the 3600 till my arrival, I sometimes use the slip case for its extra protection. However 99% of the time I far prefer the flip cover.

I'm on my way up to the northern woods of Michigan for fishing with my son today. Combination Purdue engineering degree graduation celebration, and his normal birthday fishing trip. Gonna play with the Que a bit in finally spotting some favorite fishing spots from over the last 30 years. Now THATS something worthwhile to leave in my will :)
