This link (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=58032) posted by AnswerDude gives the heads-up on this new OS for the PPC. HP will be offering an upgrade path (at a cost of course) and Dell supposedly will do so.
Guess this opens up a whole new world for the PPC and this, to me, is a nice story to celebrate my 4000th post! Not that anyone noticed! :D
I am a bit nervous that things will break on the Garmin front. One thing in particular is that it looks like all applications will now be installed to flash memory and loaded into RAM as needed. I hope developers don't need to take this into account when writing the application.
It looks like there is a built in version of a GPSGate application. I took this screen cap from the review posted by answerdude. Another reason for Garmin to start using standard NMEA protocol.

I was thinking the same thing. Garmin will be left behind if they insist on sticking on their proprietary protocol. I think it is very exciting that WM is including GPS support.

And if 5.0 does include a sort of GPSGate of sorts (too early to say at the moment) that will be a bonus. Each PDA needs to licence GPSGate at a significant $ price. That renders freeware software totally obsolete. I hope MS have addressed this.
There should be a buzz at www.opennetcf.org about 5.0. I wonder if it explains why it's taken so long to release their 1.3 framework - maybe they were waiting to see how it sits on top of 5.0?
