Ok, folks, I got it last night. For the first time in my life I was too tired to play with a new toy when it came. So, I am sittig here this mornig reading MORE posts about dust. I a afraid to look.....ok, I looked, I don't seeeee (cautiously said) dust, but I got my first pda one month ago (515) an don't know if I would notice. I did however (after great consternation) decide to remove the protective plastic sheath to give it a good inspection. I thought maybe I should keep it on, but I don't think that is the source of the dust (the screen are).

I did not take it out in the sun (sun is not up yet), but I sat at my desk with a halogen lite and tilted screen left, right, up down, I don't think I see dust. IF there were dust, would I see it pretty quickly, would it be obvious. I am caution after all that was said.

Ok, I'll put that issue aside and mabe someone will tell me to wait till the sun comes up and check it there (probably will anyway)

Next issue, should I start all over. Like I said, I have a 515. Should I install Tungstens software and pull out my programs from my "add-on" and other places I have stored my stuff for my palm 515 and (along with my databases that I need to keep.) There is alot of junk in the palm 515 folder (too much to delete junk, it would be better to cut out my important databases and programs I do want).

Also, Since I since to Outlook can Tungsten do this. I know I needed pocket mirror to do it with 515?

More questions to come....I am sure.

Hope yall post fast, I am ready to get started!

The sun is coming up!

I feel the dust issue is way overblown and not as prevalent as the boards would seem to indicate. I maintain 6 Palms (4 m505s and 2 m500s) for my company and none has any dust. My personal m505 did not show dust after 1.5 years of constant usage and my TT is has not shown any dust, either. The dust issue seems to be kept alive by a very small number of contributors who are "enthusiastic" about the subject.

You should install the TT desktop software. Note that the TT, unlike previous Palms, does not have a ROM resident email program. You'll have to install VersaMail from your Palm CD to have that function. If you have not used the email program on your m515, then you can leave VersaMail off and have more RAM.

When you perform your initial sync with your TT, all the applications and data you had on your m515 should install to your TT. After the transfer to the TT, you should find some spare time to test each one for compatability. I had some apps on my RAM and on my memory card that were not OS5 compatable, so I deleted them and installed upgraded versions or found similar applications to replace them. 2 applications "froze" my TT when I tried them. (I would call that "incompatable! :D ) A soft reset too care of that. The TT seems a lot more stable than my m505 with regard to resets and recovery.

I don't sync to Outlook, so I cannot help you with that question.

I recently installed Kinoma Player and showed the Spiderman and the Men In Black II movie trailers to astounded co-workers. The TT is a great PDA! Hope you have a lot of fun with it!

Are you saying that you played the entire movie on your palm? If so, how is that possible. Seems the size would be 100's of times larger than the palm could hold. Or was it clips and previews?

If anyone know, I seem to be having a problem getting Tabers Medical Encyclopedia installed. The original sync is takig much longer than it should or than it did with 515. It is not referenced on the compatibility list.

I have determined that my bible software is a problem for the palm. Guess I'll have to try another.

Thanks for the feedback.

I was showing the movie trailers, not the entire movie. I have them stored on my SD card, which is 64MB. Men In Black II takes 6.1 MB and Spiderman takes 3.5 MB. I just looked at 256 MB SD cards, so it may be time to upgrade my card! :)

I'm not sure about Tabers. My wife works in IS at a local hospital and many of the physicians and nurses use Palms, so I'll ask her if she's heard anything about compatability with OS5. Palm, on their web site, sells expansion cards containing the Bible ($29.99) and Stedman's Medical Dictionary ($99.99) as well as several other medical related cards.

From what little I was able to find out, apparently there is more than one version of Taber's Medical Dictionary for Palm. One version requires a master reading application called HandHeldMed Reader in order to access Taber's; another is a "free standing" application that just loads as a program and database.

Also available for Palm are Stedman's Medical Dictionary and Dorland's Pocket Medical Dictionary.

I could not find anything on OS5 compatability, but I would assume that the Stedman's on an SD memory card should work with all Palms with an SD slot.

My bible software works fine on my TT. I have 4 versions of the Bible. www.laridian.com is where you can order the software.
They have a good support team.
