The Control Panel on my emulator has the Add/Remove icon (grayed) but won't work. When I try to use it I get a "not found" message. All the other Control Panel functions work OK. AFAIK I have all the wins opx files on the emulator. Can anyone help?

I must have had some non-wins files in the System\Controls folder. I replaced them with wins files and the Add/Remove appears to work.

"But", now when I go to the Add/Remove>Add window, navigate to a wins .sis file on the C drive, and click Enter, I get a "not found" message.

Anybody have any ideas, or am I talking to myself? :-)

No, we're all listening, we're just stumped!

I guess you know more than me about the emulator - all I know is how to set up drive letters to point at folders on the PC. Anything beyond that regarding its configuration and I'm out of my depth, sorry.

I have another clue which I just noticed. Every wins .sis file on the System screen (C drive) is grayed out. Does that tell anyone anything?

I am a bit stumpped too!

The only though I have is that you are pointing to your Psion backup and it is picking up a non Wins file from there.

I would try re-installing the emulator, there can be issues if you have installed JAVA, C++ and OPL SDKs, though I have not experienced any. Also, if you have installed a ER6 SDK, this can conflict with the ER5 SDK, because of lines inserted in the autoexec file.

I am out of ideas

I'm not directing the emulator to my "real" backup files. I have the epoc.ini file written so that it goes to a copy of my backup. I frequently copy updated backup files to the emulator, but I think I've been careful not to copy any System\Opx files from the backup files. As an aside, you can get a copy of my setup notes from my web site: http://home.attbi.com/~ohsix827/ and see exactly what I've done.

I don't have any ER6 files at all. Re-install the ER5 SDK? I suppose, as a last resort, but ugh!!!!!

As the King of Siam said, "It's a puzzlement."

Hi ohsix,

Probably it's worth trying to clear up your emulator's c:\ drive completely to see if any of your MARM components is doing something strange. Not only OPXs but ALL dlls and exes on a real device is only for real devices.

Using Windows Explorer, just move all of the files under \epoc32\wins\c to some other place where your emulator cannot look up. Start the emulator, and it will try to regenerate all of the standard files and folders on its c: drive. This takes some time, so be patient. When the emulator begins to be responsive (i.e. it accepts your key presses and such), terminate the emulator. Again using Explorer, copy a WINS sis file that you know for sure to work to \epoc32\wins\c folder. For example bufferw.sis from symbian is good for this purpose. Start the emulator again. Try to install that sis file.

If it works, it is highly probable that mounting your backup to C: drive of the emulator is the cause of your trouble. If that's the case you can try the same procedure only to System folder.

If it doesn't, it's likely that your release tree (\epoc32\release\wins\deb or \epoc32\release\wins\rel depending on which emulator you're using) somehow got corrupt.

(After trying this, you can safely delete the contents of \epoc32\wins\c and return your original contents there.)

Best regards,
Keita

Following Keita's instructions, I "regenerated" my emulator and the "Add New" function in Add/Remove now works. I ran in some further problems after doing that because instead of reinstalling my apps via the original .sis files, I just copied the Apps back into the emulator from the Temp\Wins\C folder where I had moved them before starting the regeneration. What I failed to realize is that some apps put other necessary files in other folders. Everything is working fine now.
