I have Mapsource 6.5 on one computer. This one computer is hosting my Palm and PPC.

After I add a Garmin map unlock code for the new GPS 10, will I still be able to create detailed maps for use with the 3600?

My question: Can Mapsource, with one unlock code for the iQue and another unlock code for the PocketPC, create detailed maps for use with BOTH devices?

Anyone try to move the voice files to the SD card?

Good question about maps. I use two different computers and skipped Palm hotsync on onbe, since it misinstalled. Unlock codes for iQue, GPS18 and GPS10 are installed, however.

If I choose transfer maps to SD card, will the laptop know for which device? Needs to be figured out.

That is how I am using my GPS 10 and iQue 3600.

The mapset I had on the SD for the iQue would not work on the GPS 10 until I used the unlock code on Mapsource for it. After reloading the mapset onto the SD, it now works on either of the GPS's.

I have not moved the voice files. Am using the ones that were installed by the respective installation. I am only moving the mapset that was created and copied onto the SD through a card reader.

By the way, I was not able to format the 2GB SD on either devices. Seems that they did not recognize the size properly. I formatted it through the card reader as fat32.

Further information on unlock codes. I have a half dozen unlock codes in the Mapsource on my laptop. They all work just as they should on the various devices.

I have:

iQue and GSP 10 for CS 6
iQue and GPS V for CS 5
GPS V and a friends GPS V for CS 4
World map unlock for all.

The Mapsource recognizes which versions of maps work with the various devices with no problems.

You can view which unlock codes are installed in Mapsource by clicking on Utilities, Unlock Maps, Next, and select View my installed unlock codes.

Doesn't matter. The SD will work on either device as long as the unlock code was in Mapsource first.

The mapset belongs in the GARMIN folder on the SD card for either GPS.

1) An unlock code is a unique string that unlocks maps for use with a specific GPSr.
2) You may enter several unlock codes for different GPSr into Mapsource on the same PC. This is what you do if you own more than one GPSr.
3) A "device" is a GPSr, a PDA, a memory card, etc, that you can send mapsets to.
4) All valid unlock codes that have been entered on a PC are included in a mapset and sent to a "device" with the Send To Device command in Mapsource.
5) A mapset can be used together with any GPSr that has the unlock code included in the mapset.

With standard GPSr, where the mapsets reside in the memory inside the receiver, this has not been an issue since a mapset can not be sent to a GPSr without the correct unlock code.

But in the PDA world (and other situations where the GPSr is separate from the storage of the maps) when you can move a mapset on a memory card from one PDA to another (and even use a mapset with several different GPSr) is is essential to enter all unlock codes on the PC before sending the mapset to a device.

Thanks for the detailed explanations!
