Hello all

I am new to the tungsten, and have downloaded a trial version of launcher X.
For a couple of days, all was well, but now, it sometimes launches the wrong app !
ex : I tap on "currency", it launches the notepad...

Has anyone else experienced this ??

YES! Same problem. Gets better for awhile when I use "Exit Launcher X", then restart.

It is very weird. It is often repeatable. For example, when I tap on Pocket Quicken, Monopoly starts every time. (Till I restart Launcher X) However, when I go to the Palm App launcher, the icons are all associated properly and work fine....

Do you have PowerRun or other launchers loaded? I do, but I haven;t got this figured out yet.

Mike:(

Sheesh! I can't even find "Currency!" Where are you tapping to get to Currency? I'll try it on my LauncherX and let you know what happens. If it's a genuine bug in the application, we can let the developer know and they'll issue a patch or fix for it.

Yep, same problem here. Thought I was going paranoid for a little while ;-) , but the behaviour is getting worse. I'm back on the standard launcher again now :-(

Thanks for the replies !

OK, in order :

MBGrayson, I do not have PowerRun, I really think it's a pb with Launcher X, maybe the OS5 compatibility ??

OldBlue : Currency is not a native palm software, it's a freeware for converting currencies around the world (and it's GREAT) But it's not the only app that has that pb, so I don't think we can incriminate it ...

Well, it's too bad, because I really liked the regonomy and hires features of that launcher...
Hope they fix it !

bye...

That is because you are using cracked version of Launcher X.

There are no such problems with the legal version.

Crjo downloaded a trial version. Actually, Crjo probably downloaded LauncherX from LauncherX's website and didn't register it right away, which you CAN do--you can use it for up to 15 days without registering, but you get more and more nag screens.

That is NOT "a cracked version." It's how LauncherX.com does business. You download the program and try it, then if you like it you buy the registration code and unlock the program.

Please do not accuse without evidence...

That explains it. I've never had a problem with my registered copy and I was afraid it would start misbehaving.

I wrote Launcher X and I know exactly how it works and why that "bug" happens. Crjo probably downloaded LX from LX web site, but he also installed the cracked version after that. We all know that many people do that. I ujust wanted to warn them about possible problems.

hello Bole,

Actually, I was beamed Launcher X, as what I thought was a trial version. If you tell me it was cracked, that is entirely possible considering my source (!) I will then download the trial version from the official site, and if it works (as I am sure it will), i'll register it !!
Thanks for the info...

bole, are you Bozidar Benc or Will Lau?

crjo, LauncherX has been working on my TT without any glitches since I installed it the first day of its release. ... re "Currency", that may be an incompatability with OS5 rather than LauncherX. I used the freeware "CurrencyConverter" on my m505 and it crashed when I installed it onto my TT. ... I got Kinoma Player from Kinoma's web site:

www.kinoma.com

Go to their web site and on the home page, click "Free Download" under "Kinoma Player" (NOT "Kinoma Producer"). The first item on the linked web page is "Kinoma Player 1.5 Preview 5 for Palm Powered Handhelds." Click the "Get Kinoma Player" button to download. The player works great! ... I have a suspicion you downloaded Kinoma Producer, which is an app for the PC to convert files to play on your Palm.

Ah. I sit corrected. I have seen people jump to conclusions about programs not working, though, so I thought I should say something. Sorry, Bole.

I am a Tungsten user and also a member of the LauncherX beta team, and can also attest to the fact that if the version you are using is indeed the version available currently on the website, than you should not have any problems.

No more problems with LX !!
Thank you all for the info ...

Old Blue, I am downloading the right file, but it seems to have a problem with mac os X...
If you would, can you e-mail me your kinoma.prc file directly at crjo@club-internet.fr so I can try to install it ??

thank you ...

I downloaded the trial. I do not have the currency program. I also, have had no problems with it and will probably purchase it if it remains stable in the next 2/3 days.

Homer? I wonder when we might see that.

(shamelessly hoping Bole steps in again here)...:)

You will see it in Launcher X 1.1 - you won't wait long :)

Just my thoughts on the homer UI for the TT. Take it for what it's worth; no reply needed! I completely understand that there may be API or other developer issues that would prevent the coding of this behavior anyway.

Press and hold the middle button on the D-pad from any app and up pops the homer list with LX at the top and highlighted. The last app you used is next (for quick toggling between apps) followed by your most used apps in most used order. D-Pad up and down allows scrolling through the list. Pressing the middle button again launches the highlighted app. Left or right d-pad cancels and returns you to the app you were just using. Pressing any other button cancels and does that button's function. Homer list is, of course, customizable as is the button that launches it (some folks would quickly attach it to the Voice Record button I bet)

Using this UI, going to LX is press&hold then press again. Hardly any different from the way it is today. Launching any app from homer is press&hold for homer, up/down to highlight, then press again. Toggle to last app is the simplest form of this: press&hold, down, press. Wonderfully one-handed in the spirit of the d-pad IMO!

There are apps that could override this behavior: Kinoma player is a good example. But today those same apps can choose to allow the default launcher behavior too (again, Kinoma player does this as well). LX's homer function should just hook the default behavior that normally returns you to the launcher.

Not sure how the Sony folks would like it.

Thanks for the great launcher btw! Even without Homer it blows the rest away IMO. It's the perfect compliment to my TT. You should try to license it to Palm...
