It doesn't seem like my dash mount will work in the 99 m3 I am about to buy. Does anyone else here have an m3 or know how I could mount this in a car without a flat dash like my other cars?
Thanks!

JC rkevwill 05-23-2005, 05:33 PM JC, I am not fortunate enough to have a 99 M3, but I do have an ancient 325e. Not the same dash at all. Kinda depends on what you want to do. You have the windshield mount option from seidio, or the garmin windshield mount. I prefer the dash mount, where I simply use the sticky mount for the little base, and then put the Garmin car cradle into it whenever I need it. Yes, the base stays there, but its only about 2 inches in diameter, and about a 1/4 inch high, and its black. (I would be happy to send you a pic of this mounting if you like) Most importantly, its quite stable and gets good reception there. Mine is mounted towards the front edge of the dash, so the arm can take the Ique down over the vents, so its not up so high. Or, you might try a vent mount, but its not nearly as stable imho. Rattles a bit. There is one more option for you, thats more involved. On the BavAuto website, they have mounts that are primarily for phones. They mount on the side of the center console, and then you can mount any type of pda or phone there you want. They are color coded for the interior of you car, and are custom made for each car. Of course you would probably need to use an external antenna then as its mounted fairly low. I had one of these mounts in my 2001 911 cab, for my phone. Top notch quality. Ooops, ONE more suggestion if you like. You could get a proclip, then mount the garmin base mount on the proclip, and just slide the garmin auto cradle into that. I am not sure where the proclip mounts on the 99, but just do a google and go to their site. A proclip for my car mounts on the vent's edges. I just leave the base stuck to the dash, as I said. strumble 05-24-2005, 04:02 AM I have BMW 1998 Series3 and use a RAM mount--see here:- http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50772 rkevwill 05-24-2005, 07:23 AM Strumble, what about the sound, where are you getting Betty's voice from? ky-mike 05-24-2005, 08:34 AM I use the windshield mount with a gilson antenna in my '99 323. I had (broke it trying to remove it after I changed cellphones) a proclip mount for my cell phone. It mounts on the right side of the radio. If you could attach a Garmin mount to this, it is really the ideal location as you would not have quite as much glare as you do in the windshield mounted location. rkevwill 05-24-2005, 08:43 AM Ya should be able to with the permanent adhesive sticker disk. On our old 450sl, I made a lexan bracket to fit in the closed door of the glove compartment. The garmin base mount sticks to that just fine. Its been on that mount for two years and its a vertical mount, so it gets the maximum weight on it. Jcoplan: Sounds to me like the proclip mount might be the best solution, with the garmin base mount and auto kit. The only sound I need from the iQue is the navigation and 'Birdwatch' instructions and they are loud enough from 'Megan' herself!!! After all, we are talking of the quiet of the cockpit of a BMW! At 80mph the 'Birdwatch' alert is loud enough and I basically only use the internal iQue voice while navigating in a large City. I cannot stand the intrusion of 'Megan' on long journeys. I rely on the visual instuctions of unit 'left on permanently' and on 12volt charge. The position of my unit results in it being out of direct sunlight, hence less glare and reflections. The pro-clip was of no use, flimsy and gave a great deal of vibration. rkevwill 05-24-2005, 03:15 PM The proclip you used, did you use the vent mount, or the more permanent mount that clips or slides into place? Reason I ask, is I myself was not happy with the vent mount, so I said "THE HECK WITH THIS" and stuck the dashmount on and left it there. (glad your BMW is quiet, mine is noisy as hell! Of course it is now 21 years old and has 225,000 miles on it, so I can deal with it:)) strumble 05-24-2005, 03:32 PM Originally posted by rkevwill The proclip you used, did you use the vent mount, or the more permanent mount that clips or slides into place? It was smashed by my hand knocking the iQue on signalling in a roundabout! When I do the same with the RAM mount it is my hand that is damaged!! nparker13 05-25-2005, 12:24 AM 00 323i here, and I use the regular beanbag mount. I attached my gilsson to the beanbag, so when parked, i throw the beanbag/antenna combo in the backseat under my seat, and my ique fits perfectly right under the ac console, hidden from plain sight. works great for me, except recently, my bean bag has begun to slide, unfortunatley the path the ique takes to fall hits my shifter right in the middle of the sreen   Nevre had a problem, just wet the bottom a little (as it dryed out from not using it while at college), and it works better -nate maximus 05-28-2005, 04:03 PM I have EXCELLENT results with the Proclip mounting solutions.
