Hello,
some days ago my ique3600 lost his memory. At the evening i switched it of normally and the next day it was like new :-( All data erased.
Via hot sync I could play my adresses back to the ique, but now I have the problem that he doesn't speak to me while navigating. I have checked the general audio settings and the settings in the Navigation, everywhere the tone is switched on. And it's no physical problem because the system beeps work ! I only get no voice commands while navigating. I need the voice because on the motobike I can't look at the screen.
What could this be ?
Is it possible that the voice files with the commands left, right, and so on, are erased ? If yes, how can I fix that ?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Michael

Reload the voice files from the CD, and make sure and get the voice file backup program from Garmin. It happens, and they know about it, their solution is to restore from the card.

Reloading from the CD usually does the trick. There's a separate volume setting for voice guidance, but it seems you'v already tried that one.
You can test the voice by holding the Q button.

Thanks for the answers.
I've installed the voice files from the CD. I ensured that the PDA will be overwritten by the computer and made a Hotsync.
But it didn't work :-(
Has anybody another idea what this could be?
If not it seems I have to make a hardware-reset and install all the things new.

update:
Also a hardware reset with following synchronising didn't solved the problem :-(

You don't have to set any specific things for the voice files to install. They will always go into the iQue, if you have re-installed them.
Are you sure it's not a setting problem, i.e. that it speaks, but so silently that you can't hear it? Or that it's not told to speak?
Doesn't the speak test (hold Q button) work either?
Have you set your guidance preferences to do speak?

Ok, here the settings I already have proofed:
- general audio settings (the little speaker symbol at the bottom of the display): all settings to max. The system beeps and Alarms are hearable very clear and loud.
- Settings --> Que --> Way guide
- announcement to veer away: automatic AND Cue-key
- voice message: way and state
(Please excuse if I don't machted the exact english designations of the menues, I translated them by myself from German)
Despite these settings it doesnt speak to me while navigating, neither very silently. Also does the Que-Key not generate a hearable voice command.
Have I forgot any setting ?
Can anybody say me a contact at garmin where I can ask for help ?
Best regards,
Michael

You are supposed to have 122 files with the Creator ID being sscL. Do you have that? They are all speech-related, but one is in flash memory, so hopefully, you haven't lost that one!

I have never been able to get my IQue to speak when it is plugged into the automobiles 12v system. When I unplug the 12v I get the voice commands.
When you have something plugged into the unversal connector at the bottom of the Q, it disables the built-in speaker. I suppose it does that so you only hear one voice, that from the speaker on the auto kit. If you aren't hearing any sound from the auto kit speaker, either the volume on the speaker is turned down (I'm assuming you know there is a volume wheel on the speaker) or the speaker is defective.
I found out the built-in speaker is disabled using the universal connector by accident. I use a Palm power cord to charge the Q when I travel, rather than use the Q's power cord with the fragile pin that has been discussed here months ago. I'd set the alarm to wake me up, and it wouldn't. Actually the alarm went off, but with the speaker disabled, I wouldn't hear it. Now I charge it up before I go to bed, disconnect it, and the Q wakes me up just fine.
Good luck, Mike

This isn't true. Although some items, connected to the UC, will disable the internal speaker, not all of them do. The aviation cradle doesn't, for example, probably because it doesn't have any external speaker for the iQue to use.
I'd rather guess that it's the ID resistor which tells the unit if there's a speaker connected to the sound output or not, and that it got fooled by the thing you connected.
True, I didn't do exhaustive testing. Seems to hold true for the devices I tried, all of which were initially designed for the m505, my previous Palm. The power cord of which I wrote, works great as a charging cord, just can't use the speaker.
From the symptoms described in the post I initially responded to, still think there is something defective with that particular auto kit speaker, which was the main point of the post.

back to my topic:
In my case its no problem witj the external speaker, the voice is also not hearable with the internal. But the system beep goes with both speakers.
Today I wantet to control which audio files are installed in my iQue. For this I used the Erase-Function to show all files. But it shows me no files in the internal memory. Also not when I switch to the SD Card. And I know there are files. I copied some on the card before to check this.
Why don't I see files? Or are there no files installed? I have no idea.
thanks,
Michael Meyer
