( www.posltd.com )" www.psion.com cshandley 06-04-2005, 04:15 AM I couldin't find this quote on Psion's or POS's site, although I only had a quick look... hespj 06-04-2005, 10:45 AM I didn't give a very good link did I. It's under "Consumer Products": http://www.psion.com/mypsion/Login.asp Jim Cooke 06-04-2005, 02:24 PM From the Psion website: "As of the 1st June 2005 Psion Digital will cease all repair activities for its legacy range of PDA’s and accessories; Series 3, Series 5, Series 7, Revo, Siena and Modems. This is in line with our commitments made in various press releases over the previous months and years. However, for your convenience Psion has set up a link on this website to a company who is able and willing to continue to repair your Psion PDA’s. POS Ltd ( www.posltd.com ) will be able to help with ALL repair enquires and issues." I don't read this as Psion transferring their repair service to POS. I read this as Psion simply getting out of the repair business altogether and providing a link to POS as a convenience to customers. Psion said they would support the Psion PDA line until 2005 when they announced they were getting out of the business and they were good to their word. POS has done a good job of providing Psion repairs, at least for folks in the UK and Europe. Psion certainly wasn't renowned for their repair services so I don't think this is a great loss. What is worrisome is that we are now really dependent on a few third party vendors to repair Psion products. As long as they can remain profitable, all is well and good, but this is yet one more nail in the Psion coffin, I fear. :( cshandley 06-05-2005, 02:48 AM I wasn't aware that POS repaired the Series 7, yet they are listed in the parts being transfered to POS... ohsix 06-05-2005, 04:47 PM Re Series 7 repair - see http://www.posltd.com/service-psion.htm, scroll down. You get there from the POS home site by clicking on Service, then Psion Repair. Gives no price, just says "Call". Masybe someone has called and can give more info. Keith RainKap 05-06-2006, 08:43 AM Having got a rather sick 7Book (ironically, just after I repaired the power input connector, and bought a NetBook personality module from Christoph Pulster!), I decided to go for a replacement - bought another 7Book with docking station and other bits on ebay for £187 inc postage. This compares very favourably with the price POS quote on their web site for a standard repair on a Series 7 (£135) or an LCD replacement (£250)! I think my approach is going to be to open up the old 7Book (again!) and see whether I can spot anything obvious which is the cause of the problem. Does anyone know of a source of replacement bits (like the screen cable)? cshandley 05-07-2006, 02:34 AM What kind of symptoms does your old 7book have? Wondered if something was just loose, after you dismantled it. RainKap 05-07-2006, 05:36 AM My old 7Book has taken to failing to recognise stylus taps on the screen. I can usually cure this by closing the lid and massaging the area of the leather cover where the ribbon cable goes into the screen. However I'm uncomfortably aware that this is likely to cause premature ageing of the ribbon cable, so I would rather not have to keep doing it! We're off on holiday next Friday, so I shall probably wait until we come back to open up the old 7Book... PDA Street
