I just got an Axim 50 last week and there is no information (Unless I missed it) about the backup battery.

Is it user changeable? Where is the access to change the backup battery? Is it a small watch type battery that we can buy anywhere or only from dell? How long does it last when the main battery is out of charge before we lose everything?

Do you know anything about the larger optional battery that you can get from dell? Is it the same size as the standard battery or does it make the axim thicker?

Anything else you can think of about these topics please let me know.

Thanks.

The small backup battery is buried deep inside the X50 and is -for most folks- not replacable (and you'd void your warranty getting to it). On some units (e.g., a replacement X50 from Dell) the backup battery can report (Settings>System>Power) something other than normal (or if you have batt monitoring software installed, <100%...Plug your unit in and it quickly recharges back up to 100%/"normal" and has remained there, for me. I honestly think the backup battery will never be a concern for most users.

I can't comment on the large battery- I have only the 1100a batt & use my unit moderately throughout the day (on/off, on/off...) and really don't need to charge it daily- it's just easy to do at my desk.

[Boxwave makes a USB retractable cable, and an adapter plug (fits cigarette lighter at one end, wall socket at other end) that accomodates the USB side of the cable...I basically can juice up anywhere.]

Good luck,

The backup battery is rechargeble at the same time when you charge the main battery. It is a little watch battery but i don't think user can change it easily unless you want to void the warranty and open the unit. Unless it's defective, you should not need to change it for a long time. It's pretty much there so you can change the main battery without losing data, so it will not last longer than 20 minutes perhaps even less.

The higher capacity battery is thicker, it's almost twice as thick as the normal one.

If the larger battery is twice as thick I guess it will not work with my Rhinoskin.
