Hey guys, glad to be here. Here's the issue i'm having w/ my m130.....I discovered on a whim that it wasn't coming on anymore. It won't make any noise when trying to charge or hotsync it. I hit the reset problem and it started coming on and off..on and off...on and off. Then it asked me a question to "Erase all data? YES/NO?". Hitting NO a few times resulted in it turning off again, and me having to reset it over and over. Then i finally chose YES. Now, it still won't come on. When I reset it it will come on for a brief second and shut off right away.

If you have any questions you need to ask me in order to give an accurate diagnosis feel free. ANY help would be extremely appreciated. THANK YOU!

-Shane.

Shane,

It sounds like your battery is the problem. Are you sure it's fully charged? Since there's no battery charge light, I suggest the first thing you do is leave it in the cradle for at least four hours and then do an in-cradle reset, e.g., reset the Palm while it's still in the cradle, and see if that brings it back to life. You might also want to check the cradle output with a voltmeter to make sure it's working.

If you don't hear a beep when putting it in the cradle, the cradle may be bad or the ribbon cable from the battery to the motherboard may have come loose. You should You can take apart your M130 following the directions at http://********hightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GHT&Category_Code=_m130_takeapart . Check that all the ribbon cables are tightly seated and then reassemble and try charging again. If it still doesn't work, you can also get a new battery from the same source since a dead or shorted battery is now the most likely suspect.

...Normally when it goes completely dead after it warns me a couple times that the batteries are low i'll just throw it on the charger for the night and it'l be ready in the morning. I use it mostly in my car for datalogging purposes so it has been through some extreme heat and cold. I've recently fabbed up a new holder for it in the car that I think was putting too much pressure on the side, and it gashed up my screen a bit. Anyways, I managed to take it apart and missplace where something went. I actually didn't even see it fall out initially. But I've taken a quick picture of it. It's the silver "clip" looking dohickey on the inside case there....any ideas? BTW...yeah, it doesn't do ANYTHING since i've tried to be McGyver and take it apart. :(

This thing has been good to me up till now, so there will be no bitterness if it can't be revived and i have to smash it w/ a 20lb sledge per "Office Space" regulations.:)

I merged your two posts back into one thread. I looked at your picture and have no idea what the missing psrt is but I doubt that's the cause of your problem anyway. From your description of how you used your M130, I think you've finally managed to kill it. Given the fact that a working M130 is only worth about $75 on the used market, it's not worth putting much more time into when you can buy a refurbished Zire 31 for about $100 or a new Zire 31 for abour $130. I think the 20 lb sledge is the right repair method.:)

might give you a few bucks for it. They'll part it out and make $ from it.

If you really want it fixed for less than $75, I know a guy who fixes Palms. I don't know what he charges for diagnosis. I got a new battery installed in a Tungsten T for $42, and he gave me a 90 day warranty on the repair.
