I am so tired.......16 hours now.....new tungsten.
Ok, thru trial and error and process of elimination, I have discovered that I cannot put any program on my "card" only on the palm. What happens is when I sync, the palm (tungsten) goes to the "Palm Powered" screen and then to the preferences screen. Not "home" so to speak. Now, if I delete that program off of the card and re-install it onto the palm (ram?, the actual palm), the sync works fine and all syncs are completed. So, I HAVE to install all programs on the palm and find my card completely useless except for photos, which open thru the program that came with tungsten (too tired at this point to remember the name)
I can't be the only one who has suffered thru this. I got my first pda a month ago (a 515), I should have stayed simple. I was just learning my way around and got side-tracked (more better, newer, etc.)....should have stayed with what I was finally learning. Sigh. I'll get thru this, but, my back and backside are getting tired of sitting and my brain hurts.
Anyway, back to the problem at hand. This has become a true pattern and I have tested it. EACH time I install a program on the card, the palm desktop goes to "palm powered" and then to preferences and does not complete sync and update of other problesm. No errors or sync notes to view.
Any thoughts

"problesm".....that was meant to be "programs"

That does not sound right. (Duh!) You should be able to install applications onto your SD card and run the apps from there, too.
Did you format your SD card prior to trying to install applications to it? ... The Palm Install Tool on your PC allows you to install to either RAM or memory card. From your description, it sounds like your TT is not recognizing your memory card. Have you tapped the "Card Info" icon to determine whether of not your TT "sees" a memory card?

Ok, let's see if I can explain this. It is difficult to explain what I don't understand. Yes, I can install programs on the card...However, when I sync my palm does a soft reset; ie, the "palm powered" screen shows up and then I have to go to all my basic preferences, where you pick your time zone, etc. When there are no programs installed on the card, all sync and the palm goes to my palm "desktop" or a program I was using.
I don't want to have to go thru preferences each time I sync.
No, I did not format the sd card. Do you think that would matter and if so, can I do that here at work? My computer and cradle are at home.
And this is with ALL programs I put on the sd card. I tested it with several different ones, one at a time, even the card game "war".
Needless to say, my palm is running out of space, with all of my programs on it, and I have only had it 2 days.
Thanks for any help

Oh, yes, I CAN install programs to the card and they do work, but a sync creates a reset type mode, ie, the palm powered screen and preferences want resetting.

that happened to me when I installed inbox to go from dataviz. Its definately a program that you've installed that's resetting your TT when its conduit syncs. I suspect it has something to do with that application being on the SD card that's causing the conduit to crash. Or, it could be the backup process that's doing it (I suspect this is more likely since you aren't saying that the sync. doesn't complete normally).

I also had problems with datavitz, docs to go. Each time I tried beaming a document from the 515 to the TT I got an error message telling me that I hadn't closed the previous document and the TT would require a reset. Docs to Go is the primary program I use at work and I need to be able to transfer docs from one handheld to another, so I took the TT back. I'm sorry pdcparamedic that I encouraged you to "go for it" with the new pda before I found out all the bugs with it. It is a great machine and I hated to give it up. It should have been an easy transition for both of us, but I think there are just too many software conflicts yet.

not your fault pdagranny. I was gonna do it "just cuz".
Yeppers, I am having problems and don't like that I may have to sacrifice something I like for something I like. Tabers is one (a pricey program) and runners Log (a nice program). AND, if I cannot get the SD card issue resolved, I don't know what I'll do.
I'll keep you updated.

I'm sorry to hear you are both having such problems with your Tungsten. It should be 16 hours of PDAing pleasure, not torture.
In a nutshell response to your posts (and you probably know all of this already), 1) Most programs, but not all, will install to or copy over to your memory card and run on your Tungsten from there, 2) Your Tungsten should end a sync with the "HotSync" screen showing and a text line reading "HotSync operation complete." It should not appear to be resetting. (Duh!), 3) DocumentsToGo has been working fine for me. The DocsToGo module has to stay in RAM on my Tungsten, but I have moved WordToGo, SheetToGo, SlideshowToGo, and all my data files to my memory card. I have not yet tried to beam a DocsToGo file to another Palm because no one else in my office uses DocsToGo.
I haven't been on this board for the past several days. I'll do some snooping around and see if I can get any answers to resolve your problems.

Keep in mind .. there are some applications that will never run from the card .. until they are recoded.
